Hi all , Spoke with a dealer today , just basic conversation on the vehicle , didn't want to show a lot of interest . It really is what i have been looking for and i am wanting to go back within a few days to start talking price with the salesperson . The truck is a 2017 TRD off road , double cab , 5 foot bed , automatic , and has the premium & tech package in it , also has a hard tri fold tonneau cover. The MSRP on the vehicle is 39,700 . Was wondering if anyone here has recently purchased a similar vehicle and what they paid as opposed to what the MSRP was . Really like the truck and it is the color i am looking for (blue) but dont want to overpay for it . Any help would be appreciated . Thanks

Uh just reading about these trucks, that is way too high of a price. There is a cost sheet on the FAQ where you can compare options and prices of people who bought some.

    2 Things:

    1. Most people lie about the "deal" they got on here so they can brag.
    2. I bought pretty much exactly that color truck in Quicksand, including the Tech package and Tri-Fold and I *THINK* I paid 37,500 before trade and TTL. So yea, I do think that's a bit high. They won't come off them much, but I do think 37,500 - 38,000 is a realistic price.

I found a used 2017 inferno Double Cab Offroad with Prem/Tech/Tow/Tonneau/JBL. I paid 34500 and it had 6700 miles. I've been very happy with it. You might look for slightly used. This family traded their Tacoma in for a Titan.

I just purchased my 2017 TRD off-road in white with the tech package. No tonneau, and it's a manual which is usually cheaper. I paid 35224 which is about 2 grand below MSRP. I would argue 39,700 is way to high. That's generally the price of limited.

Couldn't agree with you more about people bragging lol. My truck was pretty much identical to the description but mine was super white. I paid 38.5k. I think price varies depending where you live too. Everything is stupid expensive here in the Bay Area, CA

    7% off MSRP is invoice...roughly.

That should be easy to get to.

Beyond that is anybodies guess how hungry the dealer is to eat into their hold back.

I got 10% off MSRP and 1.99% finance rate.

75-85% of MSRP. Don't be afraid to walk away from the deal, you can always go to a different dealer.

The odds that anyone, anywhere, at any time bought a new Tacoma for 75-85% of MSRP are virtually zero.
I ain't an expert negotiator, but I am a good researcher and my months of research leading to my new Taco purchase 3 weeks ago indicate 7-8% off MSRP is your best case scenario for a new, non hail damaged Tacoma. Maybe someone, somewhere got 8-9% off MSRP, but I doubt it. By the way, I bought mine with an MSRP of $35,443+tax for $32,709+tax...or just over 7.5% off MSRP (TRD Off Road, double cab, short bed, 4x4, V6, 6 speed manual trans., all weather liners/sill protectors, mud guards, bed mat and wheel locks). I put in significant research and effort and believe I got very close to the bottom. And, I live in Indiana where Tacos are not super hot. If you live in SoCal, the PNW, the Southwest US, etc...areas where Tacos are very hot sellers, I doubt you could do quite that well.
Good luck, use the tools this site and the internet provide to research and buy. And don't believe half the crap you read on here or elsewhere about anything...particularly when it comes to 2 things:
    1. What they paid...apparently lieing on the internet boosts egos or self esteem in lots of people.
    2. What a pile of crap the new Toyotas are (I love mine...best in class vehicle by a huge margin in my opinion...btw, love love love the manual trans vs the auto, I recommend test driving both...extensively.) Apparently trying to convince people how crappy a vehicle is cause they got a lemon and/or didn't do their due diligence also boosts some people's self worth.
    My 2 pesos FWIW

I wouldn't pay much over invoice. Even in the "hot markets" like SoCal.

Deal only with internet sales or fleet sales, get them on the phone and then follow up with an email requesting pricing on the color and configuration you want, and get a number of bids from dealers with the truck you want in stock. Unless you're a great negotiator, walking into a dealership and dealing with floor sales people is a mistake.

Do this the last week of the month. An at invoice deal or better should be quite doable.

Pretty close to what I paid for mine. TRD Sport 4x4 DCLB with tech package (inc JBL & sunroof) and tow package....$37,170 including shipping but before TT&L. It came out to about 7.25% off of MSRP.....basically I got it at invoice. I went straight to the fleet guy and only with him.

I paid $37.7k (after fees, no sales tax here in NH) for the exact truck as the op (or, dc, p&t, tonneau, tow, mud flaps, floor mats). No trade in, financed less than a third of the price. Truck also was going to be ordered, but my dealership intercepted another deliver from a cross state dealer a couple weeks after my deposit. So it wasn't on the lot.
