Which do you want to use? Use it!

I once had a service writer at a Toyota dealership tell me that Toyota's recommendation was to use Synthetic oil in 4-cyl Tacomas and Conventional Oil in 6-cyl Tacomas. I asked to see this in writing. I never heard another word from that particular service writer about oil.

He asked for an opinion ... if over 100K miles, 5/30 Mobile 1 Extended with a synthetic oil filter (Mobile 1 or blue Purolator One) and replace every 10K miles. If your engine burns a little oil, go to 10/30. If under 100K, use the non-extended synthetic Mobil 1. The extended adds a protection package for engines with added mileage.

That service writer is probably so sick of hearing that question...

Use what the owner's manual calls for and be done with it!

I stick to one brand of oil...the one that is on sale.

The opinions on this are like the opinions on gas octane. Nobody is going to give an opinion based only on facts, everyone will say “use x brand” because that’s what they use.

The most factual article I’ve read stated that the difference between expensive oil and cheap oil was negligible and it really didn’t make a difference unless you went with extreme service intervals. However, the general synthetic vs conventional is pretty easy, synth is better.

I used MTL from Redline. Shifts are nice and smooth on my 4cyl 4x4.

Use either one. Synthetic will let you get more miles between oil changes. How many more? Depends on who you ask.

In my opinion that Service Writer was simply flapping his jaws and offering a personal opinion.
