Same here. I'm just making shit up as I go along.

 

Not that torquing down a brake caliber is a bad thing but I have taken it off before and I don't think I torqued it. Good and tight was my setting I believe

I admit the same. Actually I admit that I know way less than you.

The only real hope and dream that I have is that my better half continue to help me buy all this truck shit. LOL.

Since last year's Takeover, I've done shit that I've never ever done before. Or even attempted to do. Front brake rotors/pads, Rear drums/shoes, Dual battery system, Full suspension/lift/shocks/springs (twice), Full armor, full plate bumpers F/R, CB install, and a bunch of other things.

But I try to learn and do stuff... But learn and do stuff the right way. But then I get crap information from a select few out of the MANY helpful peeps on this forum.

I'm trying to put together some of the fails that I've had along the way. Aggravating as hell when they happen. But funnier than shit when I look back. But ALWAYS a learning experience.

What wrong info have I given?

 

Me IRL. "Scariest" job on the truck so far was easily the timing belt and water pump. Most aggravating was the rear wheel bearings.


And apparently I'm confident enough to do this to something that can kill me if I fuck it up:

 

I am chop full of info from just sutting back and reading. I read so much on forums and technical manuals at work its not even funny.

 

You think these mechanics now a days know more than you? They all do the same thing we do with our trucks. Youtube forums and manuals. The understanding of inner workings of stuff is what we know that most don't

 

Except for the knowledge that the phrase is "chock full" not "chop full".

A few things:

Awesome work, looks great and love the function that the window opens with a spare on!

Those things are genius! when I finally finished my wheel bearing last night (too lazy to work in the rain on Monday) I just used a 17mm wrench and hooked another wrench on the 17 and torqued until tight.

BTW, I learned a lot while replacing the wheel bearing, including:

How the spring clip is oriented in the brake caliper
how to get the lower ball joint bolts to line up easily with stiff 886 springs, when jacking up the LCA lifts the truck off the stand (use a ratchet strap around the UCA and LCA, Thanks @loosnut)
How to beat things with a hammer when they are stuck, like the mushroomed race in my spindle (again, thanks Jerry)
How to get the CV seal pressed in without any proper tools (used the broken wheel bearing)

I also learned the hard way, what wheel bearing symptoms are. I thought it was tire where for a long time, then i heard metal on metal, and by that time it was too late. I drove it one day past when i first heard that noise, and now i know to never do that again!
