I agree, but sometimes I feel that way about the missing sunglasses holder on the TRD OR.

My 16 TRD OR crawl doesn't have crawl control. It has a clutch.

    Waggin :)

I have a clutch in a defender and my Nissan patrol. I love both rigs ...the only thing I really would change on them is AUTOMATIC TRANSMISDION .

I actually used it several times on a wheeling trip this weekend. I was on a steep hill climb with some loose rocks and tree branches. I got stuck over a rut and was spinning the tires even at low speeds. Tried crawl control for the hell of it before asking a buddy to tow me out. Worked like magic over that rut. Definitely worked. I thought it was a gimmick at first, but when you're actually stuck it definitely helps. Haven't used it in mud (dont like mudding) though.

Here's the thing with crawl control, a lot of people are using it before they get stuck and that is wrong and will likely cause damage at some point. I've seen people immediately go to CC as soon as they get off road, I've seen them activate it to cross muddy spots on a trail, and to climb obstacles. That is not what it's there for, it is a tool to use as a self recovery aide WHEN you get stuck.

Yes! Crawl control works strangely or is not smart to use if you are not really stuck...people that use it too often or on terrain that is otherwise too simple will say it freaks out and feels lurchy.

Get actually stuck and see how it feels!

Or get a manual, skip on crawl control, and use A-TRAC

I haven't used A-TRAC yet. I guess I need to get out and try it.

It kinda dies by the same sword as crawl control. You fight it with the rear locker engaged, and it really can only help in a certain kind of "stuck".

There's so many "hardcore" wheelers that think you have to be in 4lo for everything. I ran into that at an event recently and nearly everyone in front of me and my group was crawling along on hard packed dirt and rock in 4lo while we were in 2wd. These trucks are very capable in 2wd as it is and unless you're climbing a steep hill, 2wd or 4hi is more than sufficient. I guess it all comes with experience, I just wish people would do more to push themselves and their capabilities in 2wd because it makes the wheeling experience much more fun knowing that you just rocked some shit that everyone else was doing in 2wd.

This was done in mostly 2wd up until the part where I was banked over about 33 degrees and slipping in the wet clay.

I agree with most others here. While I haven't been in a situation that CC would have saved me, I like having it as a potential "tool" in my bag to get unstuck.

MTS is like varying intensities of A-TRAC from what I understand, and always gets used when I'm in 4-Lo. 4HI gets used 95% of the time though I'm doing any real offroading, and does great.

If CC is making too much noise, you're probably using it when you don't need to (mainly flats). once you hit a decent incline/decline, it's a much more tolerable sound. I love it, has gotten me out of hairy situations. I am an off road newbie-ish, and I think the technology is awesome.

I used it 1x just to test it out, but other than that I stick with 4Lo and MTS. Haven't needed the rear locker yet

I would probably use it more if it wasnt such a pain in the ass to get into 4-lo. On ym jeep I just pull a lever, on my old F-250 I pulled and turned the knob and it was instantly in. On this toyota I have to drive it for like 100 feet before it goes in, super annoying., even 4-hi I have to wait sometimes. My ford was literally, click and in.

Honestly I only use it on stuff I'm not comfortable with. I'm not really the most experienced off road person so super steep climbs/descents and things where each wheel can be Individually controlled gives me alot of peace of mind. I found it to be horrible in the snow, but I blame the stock wranglers more for that. I'll find out next winter.

I enjoyed using it while heading up and down the Murphy Hogback on White Rim Trail in Moab. Going up the incline, it allowed me to focus more on tire placement than throttle. Definitely a handy tool worth having access to in my opinion.

I am not a fan, but if I ever get stuck I'd definitely give it a shot before I get the straps out.

Total sales gimmick. There doesn't exist a situation where crawl could get you out and without it the truck wouldn't be able to get out (assuming it has A-TRAC or lockers). The sand videos on youtube are a joke...put anything 4wd in the same scenario and it will easily be able to back out of it.

That being said it is what is. Self crawling feature. It doesn't bring any greater capability to the table but one may consider it cool and that in itself has value so, to each their own.
