    Good luck getting the insurance to pay for armor. They will only pay to put it back to stock even if the armor is cheaper. Unless you get the other guys insurance to pay you off by check then you will be stuck for any hidden damage and you get to fight with the body shop if there are issues. You greatly loose your leverage against the body shop.

    He could always take it a smaller body shop unlike the big ones who charge way too much for oem part, and they can send a quote to insurance and then just install the aftermarket bumpers for him

    You can get a low profile aluminum front bumper for around 600. I'm betting the front work plus labor with be around that much.

    If the OP doesn't want to armor up, I have everything you need for the rear bumper. I even derped the chrome end caps for ya (they will need a fresh coat or two to take out scuffs).
