I was involved in a bit of a hit and run today. My light had just turned green so I was making my way through the intersection, and there was a car that turned right, right into my front passenger wheel/tire. I didnt want to block the intersection so I slowly pulled over into the driveway right after the intersection thinking the car was going to follow (dumb idea) the car took off. Luckily there was someone behind me that saw and followed the car for a little and was able to get a picture of their license plate and their car. Police report was filed and their license plate info was given

The impact wasn't too hard (at least i don't think it was) but the rock ring on my brand new Level 8 Bully Pros did get scratched a bit (more bummed that it didnt happen while I was wheeling).

My concern is what are some things I should look for? Im concerned of a possible bent wheel or bent suspension components. My alignment is a bit off now. Is this something I should even get insurance involved with?image1-1.jpg

Had the exact same thing happen except the other driver didn't run away.

Took my truck to my mechanic and told him what happened and asked him to go through it with a fine tooth comb. Her insurance was footing the bill and got me a rental too so I assured them that they should take their time. In the end, it just needed an alignment.

People suck. Get a dash cam, and next time follow that B***.

As far as the damage, doesn't look too bad so you may be able to get away with just a <$100 alignment

Whoever hit you is going to lose their license for a while. Hit and run is a BIG no-no.

Probably already suspended and no insurance and car not registered to them. That's why they ran.

Depending on how bad the impact was, you can check for ball joint/tie rod play or damage if the impact was dead center on the wheel. Your alignment and cam tabs could be a concern if the impact was closer to the leading edge of the wheel/ front bumper. Good on the good Samaritan for getting the info for you, that'll help with the police report and find the POS. If you have a description of the driver, that would help also. A lot of people will claim to have "let someone borrow" their car and it wasn't them driving.

If you need dash cam recommendations/help let me know. Not sure if I showed you my setup before.

Damn OP that sucks. The police will do their job, hopefully someone learns a hard lesson from this...

I would take it to a good alignment shop and have them look over all your suspension components while their at it. Let us know what come of it!

Not to high jack the thread, but i'm interested to hear your recommendations. I bought one from costco, total POS let down. Tried a go pro, annoying having to turn it on/off everytime in the car, and either the extreme summer temps, or having it plugged in 24/7 killed the battery in it.

The police aren't going to do anything other than file a report. The cops are too busy arresting methheads and the jails are busy booking them and letting them back out on the streets. There is no way anybody is going to do jail time for a minor hit and run when you have people doing meth, robbery, assault, rape, and murder. Hate to paint a dismal picture, but that's the way it is. If you want some enlightening, look at your local jail inmate listing on line. You will be shocked at what people get arrested for and released after spending 1 night in jail. Heroin, heroin, heroin, meth, meth, theft, false info, stolen car, OK, let them out.

Search "dashcams" thread titles and you'll find a lot of good info and various reports on various models. I went simple and used a Mobius front and rear. Bare bones camera, no GPS, no screen, no impact sensor- perfect for my needs. Hard wired to the truck to turn on automatically once the key is inserted, but I also have a separate switch that I can use to keep the camera rolling when the truck is off.
One thing to note is that if you plan on having the dashcam plugged in to the car 24/7, the battery will die quickly from the constant charge cycles. Most batteries do not like being charged over and over if they are not allowed to drain between charges. On the Mobius, you have the option of replacing the battery with a capacitor ($7 upgrade) that keeps it performing in hot conditions.

I just dont want to pay for any of it

Ok, I'll have them check it out. im going to call my ins company today I dont want to pay for any of this. I've thought about getting a dash cam since I drive so much, but I really dont like having clutter on my windshield/dash

That true. Our jails are also so busy. I dont need for anyone to jail, to be honest, if the person had stopped I would have been more inclined to be ok with everything. Its the principle of it all.

All true. But since OP has a license plate number, at least there's a place to start...

Not %100 true. I witnessed a lady get rear ended, pull over, and the tahoe that hit her took off. I followed the tahoe and got pics of her license plate, drove back to the lady who got hit. Cops came to take the report, I showed them the pictures and gave my side of the story. Left and went home, 2 weeks later got a $50 outback gift card and a thank you card with a note from the lady who got hit. The cops arrested the lady driving the tahoe for hit and run since the damage was over $500 lol

All depends on your insurance and state laws.

My state requires a seperate policy for uninsured/underinsured motorists (which you do not have unless you ask for it) and I have to pay my comprehensive deductible. A police report usually has to be filed as well.

Talk to your insurance. I think you should have it fixed if it bothers you and repairs are significant.

I have three hit and run damages totalling $500 each hit. I didn't claim because I honestly feel my insurance will jack my rate up even though they shouldn't. I'll fix it myself down the road.

I would take the truck to a trusted mechanic for a solid look though. Assess the full damage and get quotes then make a decision from there.

In your case, it sorta worked the way it's supposed to, but still, I bet she didn't spend 24 hours in jail. Then there's a good chance she didn't show up for court. Then they issue a warrent for her arrest. Then they arrest her. Then the jail lets her out. There is no consequences for these lowlife dirtbag loosers. So, unless they screw up really, really bad and get prison time, it just cycling them through the revolving doors. A girl I once new gets arrested about every 2 months for heroin and a bunch of failure to appears. Over the last 1 1/2 years, she's been arrested 12 times. She almost never spends more than 2 days in jail.
