Hmmm. Did ya use a wiring harness adapter? I remember balking at connecting the orange illumination wire from the z to the harness adapter due to problems others had with other units. I finally manned up and just did it. If I recall correctly, the wiring harness wire for illumination was orange too (different shade tho) on the Scosche adapter I used. It was even labeled for good measure.

    Hey guys quick ?'s

Where did you mount the GPS antenna?

Did you hook up the VSS?

Do you have to connect the parking brake wire?

I am not going to be using a rear camera at this time.

GPS antenna should be mounted inside, somewhere close to where the dash and windshield meet is good.

The VSS isn't a "must" on those units but it helps a lot and will also give you, MPH, Voltage etc.

There is a bypass for that unit, I'm pretty sure you move the mute wire up a pin and then ground your parking brake. If you dont bypass then yes, you have to hook it up or else you won't be able to input nav destinations etc.

    Hope that helps!

Check out avic411.com for info and pics on the bypass for this unit. Good luck!

You put the magnet on top of the unit?!? Wow I dunno about that one but luckily its not interfering with anything.

What year truck do you have. I have an 2008 and from what I have found the VSS wire is in the second connector from the bottom and its the top right wire when plugged in. Does that sound correct to you?

I figure I will do the by pass as well since is so damn simple

I mounted my gps to the top of the plastic vent duct behind the glove box. Nice easy access. Also attached the vss wire. Does the z have mph display?? Mine doesn't display anything. Maybe I haven't the display option yet. As far as I know, the vss is only used to update your position between gps signals and to calculate eta. The parking brake wire gets grounded during the bypass process.

I have no clue I have not received the unit yet. I know that is does have a fuel consumption application in it though.

I'm assuming it does, I haven't installed one yet but I have the avic-D1, which is the first double din the pioneer came out with and mine has it so I guess a much nicer unit like the Z has to as well.

The Z110BT does not have a mph display. You are correct about the vss, it's only used to update your position with the gps. It's my understanding that if you go through a tunnel and lose your satellite signal, the gps will still update based on the vss.

I hooked up the vss wire on my Avic 910 and there is no way you can tell if its hooked up properly, I know a lot of people just leave it unhooked with no issue. I mounted my GPS antenna on top of the dash in the corner of the driver side. I don’t notice it at all. Mounting the gps antenna under the dash works but you do lose a little signal. I recommend against mounting the GPS on the outside of the truck because overtime you will get some corrosion and eventual lose signal then you have to replace the whole cable. (pita). Just my experience with these, hope it helps.
