As far as modifications, are there less options for a long bed?

Shortbed or Access Cab are now your only options.

But the AC has a 6 foot bed where the short bed has a 5 correct?

Yes. AC is a "long bed" technically.

But you can't have a Double Cab Long Bed & 6MT in a 2nd Gen.

Your decision now is whether you want seating for 4 adults or two.

I have a TRD OR access cab with the 6 speed and I don't regret it one bit. Sure, you lose the "larger" back seat, but I wouldn't use it 98% of the time. It doesn't limit the mods available, that's for sure. For instance, my RCI sliders are compatible with both DCSB and ACLB trucks. Also, you get the longer bed with the shorter wheelbase/better turning radius of the DCSB vs. the long wheel base of a DCLB.

I would think the best platform for an overland build would be a double cab long bed. That would require an auto, but would get you a v6. Find a basic 4x4 and add the suspension and lockers of your choice. OME and ARB's are the alphabet soup you are looking for.

Correct. My question was just whether it would limit mods, or if some mods were available for one configuration but not the other.

I want the locker over the long bed, and the MT is a must. I don't want to deal with retrofitting a locker on the sport.

With bias, i would disagree. I favor reg cab due to wheel base and long bed.

I guess its worth mentioning that I had a DBLB and I did not like it. Too long, looked funny, and I didn't like the extra hassle of parking it.

I just wanted to wish you luck looking for a 6 speed. They're fairly hard to find unless you get lucky and or are willing to travel a fair amount. Personally I have a short bed doublecab mainly because I used to think Long bed double cabs looked too long... well funny. Now the more I look at them I think they're kind of cool looking but I had no idea you couldn't get them in the 6 speed option.

It's not that bad. Tire sits on the tailgate, gearbags hang on the pegs(strapped of course), and the can fits in the stand which sits up against the cab:hattip::rofl:

If you do any sort of off roading, once you have a locker in the rear you cant go back. 2wd with the rear locked there is stuff i can creep through with no wheel spin that an open diff 4x4 would make look hard.

But yes you are right, a locker, and atrac hardly do get used by most. That stated because you have atrac you get the electric boosted master cylinder which has a much better brake pedal feel and much more line pressure than the standard vacuum assisted setup.

Dclb lift of your choice, body lift, an 35s trim to fit don't see why that wouldn't be capable. Only down side parking an tight city turns I foresee.
