I don't get the chrome thing, still. Why are manufacturers (especially on trucks), still bathing some of their vehicles in chrome? In 2017 chrome is about as out as wearing a pair of bellbottom pants.

Because old guys buy trucks too. My neighbor bought a Sierra a couple years ago and ADDED chrome, and an S-load of it. Damn thing had more reflective surfaced than a carnival's house of mirrors. Soo glad he got rid of it.

*shudders* Just make stupid looking chrome an option then for the old folks that still want it.

Yes, I tend to agree. There are probably 2 reasons for the chrome:

    1. Sells well with a certain demographic (i.e. older folks). A significant portion of people I see drive 3rd Gen trucks are actually guys who look 50+. This is a reason why the Limited Edition is so chromed out. Limited edition costs way more money and the people buying these are mostly 50+ in a good financial situation. I think the Limited is specifically designed for this demographic.
    2. For everyone else, they need an up-sell. So lower editions get chrome but the TRD's (extra $$) do not. I bet to go from chrome to non chrome, it costs Toyota a $1.
There was a famous quote from Lee Iacocca (look him up if you don't know who he is) something along the lines of it taking $45 in parts (on the building phase) to upgrade a Chevy to a Cadillac. Toyota is doing the same thing.

Could it also be an old ingrained trained of thought from the auto manufacturers that chrome is associated with luxury so it should be on your more expensive models? I agree chrome has been out for ages but companies are slow to change in some areas and ditching chrome seems to be one of them. I agree that the bit of chrome plastic trim we see is about a dollar at most for Toyota when all we want to do is get that off as soon as possible.

Chrome and wood , That's what the manufactures just won't let go. Why do they still want to put wood in cars. Stupid

I don't care for all the chrome garbage either, probably why the Limited does not appeal to me, plus the Limited has that horrendous interior too.

Yup, the wood exteriors are LONG overdue for a comeback. Somebody with some skills needs to photoshop that stuff on a Tacoma stat!

I thought I might try my hand at some photoshopping and was looking for a pic to chop. I happened across this one, not sure what's going on, but I like it.

Some manufacturers are still bragging about putting wood inside the car , like somehow it fits better there. Wood trim panels , wood steering wheel, wood dash I mean come on. wood is the opposite of carbon fiber.

Can a car be crafted rather than produced?

    Blah-blah-blah

Not luxury, not a new idea <cough> model-T<cough>.

I remember the olive Oldsmobile Cruiser (I think) with genuine faux wood panels on the outside and wood steering wheel with those great rea facing thrd row seats. Wood was definately not a luxury.

I'll have a Taco, thanks for playing
