FJ TRD wheels -Prison style (ACI)

March 7th- I bought 5 FJ TRD wheels but they needed to be sanded a bit and re-powder coated.
March 8th- Found ACI (Florence Prison) via Alex.
March 9th- Dropped off wheels to await transport to the prison and a quote for sandblasting and powder coating (I was told 1 week for a quote).
March 17th- Called to see what was going on; left message; no return call.
March 22nd- Called and waited on hold for 25 minutes. Was told there was no quote yet but I'd get a call later today, possibly with a quote. No return call.
March 24th-Got a quote of $86 and change.
April 16th- Still waiting.
May 3rd- They're ready to be picked up!

Patience is a virtue. $86.00 for sanding and powdercoating for all five wheels? If so, that's dirt cheap and worth a couple weeks wait! You did specify black, right? I've heard pink is a popular prison/jail color in AZ.

 

Think about the group involved with running a prison industries shop....not exactly top of the line folks here.

 

prisoners do quality work. I have never ever had a problem with a license plate.

They were scuffed up and nicked up so Chris4x4 and I sanded them down and I'm trying to get the original black put back on them.

For that price, I'd definitely drive to AZ to have them done.

 

Usually inmates do quality stuff, they don't allow just any inmate to work, only the ones with good behavior. And I'm sure working is way better than sittin in a cell starein at the walls!

 

A lot of prisons do a lot of graphics/decals. I know some Fire Departments out here that use them for their apparatus, union decals, etc. They do good work.

 

Inmates at the Southern Desert Correctional Center has a number of inmates who do a variety of custom auto work. There is a shop for sanding and painting Shelby Cobra bodies, a custom detailing and rebuild shop (they are in the process of rebuilding a 1930s era Rolls Royce, as well as a boat. They also do custom motorcycle rebuilding and painting. Their work is very high quality, and they charge $65.00 per hour labor. The owner of the vehicle may supply the parts and materials for their projects, or the prison will purchase the stuff and add it to the bill. The inmates do the work for extra money, but the selection process is a tough one. This is a medium security facility, by the way.
