What's wrong with just unplugging the connector at the coil pack? I wouldn't think it would hurt anything.

I think a secondary kill switch will be best for ease of use in the long term. That being said, HOW was the truck stolen previously?

Most cars are stolen because the car was running or the perp had easy access to the keys.

Unless you're talking a car jacking, having a sidearm in your vehicle doesn't really do anything to prevent a car from getting stolen. Hopefully you take it with you when you leave the vehicle, too...

It's rather inconvenient to have to pop the hood every time you want to drive it. This would work great if you are parking it somewhere and aren't using it a lot, but if you're driving it daily, I doubt you want to pop the hood every single time. A hidden ignition cutoff switch is probably the most convenient and easy to use on a daily basis.

I live in a city that's one of the highest in the US for per capita auto theft and have been studying this for some time.

Look into a Ravelco. Cost is relatively high at $500, but they won't be driving it away without spending significant time trying to defeat it. Supposedly it's never been done.

However a Ravelco will not sound an alarm in the case of a break-in. If you're also concerned about that you'll need a traditional car alarm.

fuel injectors will still fire regardless if a coil pack is unplugged. Who ever tries to start it will eventually flood the cylinders with fuel. that is all. Yes it will not run, but you'll have to remove the fuel somehow. I never had success firing up an engine when its flooded, I guess you have that magic touch.

The Ravelco basically cuts into several critical circuits under the hood and routes the wiring into a "config connector" on the dash. In a daily driver, that connector would be plugged and unplugged 500-700 times a year. Good luck designing an electrical connector, even industrial or military-grade one, that will withstand the duty cycle.

I could be wrong, but do you live in Oakland, CA or Berkeley, CA? I don't think the feedback on carrying will be very helpful. Sounds like your truck is being stolen while parked. Your best defense is making your truck as difficult to steal as possible, since making it impossible to steal, is well, impossible. A club that is visible will likely make them move on to the next vehicle. A kill switch would be another method to slow them down, and parking in better areas and off street (if at all possible) is another tip.

In Poland quite popular is a locking pin that goes through the shifter locking it in Park or Reverse position. It goes through center console so impossible to defeat unless you pick the lock in very inconvenient place or removing the center console with all guts.

Like most have said...a thief will find a work around for most things. Best bet is to add more deterrents. Throw a steering wheel lock on like the Club and throw on a wheel lock....if you are using these items plus your pedal lock the majority of thieves arent going to bother and wont have the time to do so.

If a thief really wants your vehicle, they bring a flatbed or tow dolly.

Thieves will also intentionally set of your alarm in the middle of the night time after time. After you get tired of resetting it & having neighbors complain. You turn it off. Then they strike.

I'd connect a Toyota switch in one of the "Blank" switch spots. Wire it to disable the fuel pump. Truck will stall in the middle of traffic and thieves don't want attention, so they run.
