Dropper option. I tie to the bend. It's semi-easy. A friend once tried to teach me another method, but I had just started fishing and was having a little brain overload on the different knots so didn't master it. It was very similar to this video. The guy in the video uses larger line for the demonstration.

I saw a guy that had the pvc pipe, but instead of the ammo box he had adaptors that went up to 6" pipe with a cap on the end and a lock on it. When I first pulled up I thought it was a plumbers truck!

Tied up my first Euro Leader (base leader) tonight. This part should last a long time and I'll only need to change out the tippet based on conditions. Here's the formula I used to minimize knots.

    1. 13.5' Rio Suppleflex 4x Leaders (FYI - they stopped making these but I found a dozen online at various retailers and bought them all). Should last a long time!
    2. Rio 3X Indicator tippet
    3. Tippet Ring

I cut a couple of feet off the 13.5' leader to get down to roughly 3X size and then using a blood knot, tied on 3' of the Rio Indicator Tippet and then the tippet ring with an improved clinch knot. Pretty simple and streamlined. I'll tie on 4-6' of 5X and then another 2' of 5X using a double surgeons knot with a long tag for the dropper fly. I don't see me using more than two nymphs.

Goal was to not have a knot in the guides while casting & landing fish (10' rod).

My wife and I are headed on a trip out west in early June next year for 3 weeks. We will be making our way from Bozeman, MT to Seattle, WA making stops along the way. Will there be any water that is fishable to wade that time of year or is everything blown out? My wife said we could fish for 2 full days so I would like to take advantage of it while I have the chance. Any help would be a appreciated!

I went to a class tonight at my local shop that went over the 5 main types of bugs and their 3 stages and how patterns can mimic size shape and color of the hatches of these 5 types. Main 5 for Colorado were : Midges ie little black gnats, Caddis ie moth like flies, Stoneflys ie larger clear winged prehistoric bugs, Mayflies ie BWO, PMD, and Drakes, and tricos and terrestrials ie ants, hoppers, and beetles. They also went over the pattern distinctions for those five types in the three life stages of nymphs emergers and dry adult flies and how the Stoneflys don't have emerger states like the other three non terrestrial types. All great info that I had missed in my teach myself journey into fly fishing. I hope I remembered all that correctly and can put it to use next time I step up to the shore. Glad I went and although it cost 25 bucks I got a dozen flies to add to my box while in learned more about this hobby. All this time I thought I was nymphing was with emergers mostly and the little nymph in I did probably was in the wrong part of the water column without split shot.

I live in Oregon and the fishing season for streams starts in May. I'm not familiar with Washington's fishing regulations (check out Washington Dept of fish and game on-line). I fish trout exclusively with fly and spin reel in streams and lakes/resevoirs. Spring Chinook might be winding down while trout will be starting. Warm water fish don't get going until the mid to late summer. Hope this helps!

Ok. You all inspired me to tie some Green Weenies. The fly on top is a more traditional, weighted worm pattern, while the fly on the bottom is a variation of the traditional. Both are tied on #14 nymph 3x long hook. Plan to test these out this weekend!20170809_215401.jpg

    Trout candy lol
I would find some wider gap hooks or maybe smaller chenille for your next batch tho it looks like the gap is kinda crowded and that will make it harder to hook up when a fish eats it. Or maybe I'm looking at them wrong.....in any case nice ties :)

    Right on
Runoff will be happening so don't plan on fishing the freestoners
    .............unless..........
Salmon fly hatch might still be happening in which case I'd fish rock creek and the Clark fork lol they're by Missoula. Fish eat them regardless of the flow lol
Call the kingfisher fly shop in missoula they'll know where to go :)

The same shit everyone else has.

This. What size chenille is that? Ultra chenille works the best. Small will work too. I found the standard dry fly hook works well for them but I tie mine on scud hooks to get a little curve to the body.

I like mine a lil bulkier and heavier.

    My recipe -

    - #12 heavy wire scud hook
    - 5/32 bead
    - small crystal flash chenille
    - contrasting color 6/0 thread (pink and red work well)
    - black ice dubbing

(Sorry for posting the same pic again)

1/8" bead, #12 dry fly hook, and ultra chenille would be more typical for them then what I posted above.

I tie some with #14 dry hooks and no beads with ultra chenille, and fish them as dries to immitate inchworms.

Here's some history on em -

    http://www.flyanglers.org/tying/archive/weenie.html

It's neat that they were fish fished in my back yard. I'm just north of Latrobe.

Do it. You won't regret it. They're like chili cheese dogs to trout.

There no wrong way to fish em either, just like a wooly bugger.
