I guess part of being a taco owner is having shit A/C? I'm messing with mine. Here are my pressures and temps. I AM NOT AN AC TECH MY FRIEND IS DOING THIS WITH ME. Just sharing my results and seeing what anyone has to say.

Roughly 41 on the low pressure side and 390 on the high pressure.

I can't reply I regards to pressures but 31 degrees sounds good. I think mines around low 40's.

Wish I could be you. I got in today after work to find piss warm air coming out of all vents but the drivermost side. Fixing the pressures back to said numbers cures the ailment. I'm pretty sure I have a leak..

I'll have to check my 15 with my IR gun, but it is not impressive, no way is it down in the 30s. On of my largest complaints actually is the AC.

390 is pretty high unless it's 130 degrees outside. Sounds like you have a radiator fan problem.

We stopped right there man. That's as far as we went. I tried to let some pressure out of the high end and actually got it back up in the low 40's which made me mad so I just sat down to eat fruit snacks and dip a bunch while I binge watch family guy lol I'm over it:rofl:

Report what you find in here maybe we'll find some magic numbers to adjust to.

My sister overheated the truck last summer with the AC on max parked in tall grass. No damage it was probably only 250 degrees max but I'm beginning to wonder if my fan clutch is malfunctioning... hmmmmm

Do elaborate man I've suspected something was off. But everything seems great.

I only see 300 psi of pressure on the high side with a proper charge on a 115 degree day here in Houston. 390 is pretty high up there.

What could happen due to this pressure? What am I doing wrong? What should I do? IM CONFUSED:rofl:

Ok. Here goes nothing. Air flow over the condensor is critical to the ac system. With lack of airflow over the condensor will cause higher pressures and therefore hotter air out of the vents. If pressure rises above a certain point it would trigger the high side cutoff switch or it would start to purge freon out of the pressure relief valve. Make sure you have the proper charge in the system.

Damn I wish mine blew 31°

Just curious, how cold do you expect it to get? It's already below the freezing point which will freeze your evap core.

Those digital ones are great but I use the good ol metal stick thermometer. I want air temperature not the surface of the duct temp.

I've put my manifold gauges on many systems and they all varying pressure from 200s to high 300s which also vary depending on temperature and humidity. If you're getting 31* at your vent you're doing better than anything I've seen. AC systems can only be so efficient

To reduce high pressure you can either improve condenser performance (clean it if it is full of bugs/grass/crap/tar/etc, improve airflow by making sure the fan clutch is running the fan properly) or else reduce the freon charge. That number is getting WAY up there. And BTW, you really do NOT want the discharge air temp to be 31. The A/C is not going to work very well, as the evap core has to be WAY below freezing to cool the air that much, and as moisture condenses it will flash to ice/frost and greatly reduce airflow and heat transfer. For the low pressure side, check the R134a scale which gives pressure and boiling point temp. When checking the pressures you do need to either (a) have a good shop fan blowing air thru the condenser, or else spray a mist from your water hose on the condenser to improve the heat removal.

Given your 41 psi low pressure, 30 degree air is impossible as the boiling point of R134a at that pressure is about 45 degrees. This suggests that perhaps your evap core is crudded up which is blocking a lot of the airflow. So something is wrong with the numbers somewhere.

I have seen a couple of compressors over the years that were capable of producing 20 PSIG on the low side. Blows really cold air, then freezes up and blows no air until the compressor is turned off and the evap core is allowed to defrost. Solution is to add freon to get the low pressure side up to something reasonable. Anything below 30 PSIG is getting into freeze-up territory.

I don't have a way to test the temps here at the fire station but mine is always cold. For south Texas heat I almost always have it on the lowest fan setting on the coldest temp and it's plenty cold. I noticed how exposed the ac condenser was when I bought it new and took some stucco mesh I had laying around and sprayed some flat black paint on it and fastened it between the grill and the condenser. That wide open stock grill is just asking for a stone to pass through and hit the condenser. Hopefully yours isn't leaking there.

I had a customer with an old Nissan Altima and he would claim that his ac was wicked cold then it would start to blow hot after about 30 min of driving. Sure enough he hotwired his compressor to always run so it was essentially freezing the compressor and it was dropping the low side down too low turning it into a block of ice.
