Protons and Neutrons are made up of quarks, which are considered elementary particles. Electrons are also considered elementary particles and are not made up of quarks. Both electrons and quarks are believed to be mass-less.

How can something that has mass be made up of something that's mass less? That crap blows my mind.

Wow we are made up of things that have no mass yet we have mass. Crazy. Just like with the big bang. Nothing exploded and here we are!

i took alot of astronomy in college and alot of stuff about the universe blows my mind. for homework we'd get like 3 questions but it would take 2 or 3 hours to do. we'd have to figure out the mass of a galaxy. the crazy thing is that you have to take in account of empty space, because even empty space has mass. trying to comprehend (and calculate) that shit will blow your mind

My favorite was calculating the density of the solar system only to figure out that if it were filled with air it would slightly exceed the average density of matter within the Schwarzschild radius of a supermassive black hole of the same size.

Ow, that made my brain hurt...

Clears preconceptions about time and space out of your mind to help you recognize your assumptions when approaching or analyzing something new. To think that the density of anything that underwent catastrophic gravitational collapse could be compared to our atmosphere is definitely mind-boggling at first. My prof would often deliver this kind of mind opening experiment disguised as a simple homework problem... then he would entertain questions at the end of the next class to see who actually "got" it. He called them "palate cleansers."

Ahh. Like trying to figure out the mass of the nothing that exploded to create matter. hmm I know what I believe and I believe what I know. Everyone is welcome to their own Ideas and opinions. And I live here in America and I am free to state my opinions.

Um, yeah... very true. *re-reads my post* Huh? Didn't realize I was quashing anyone's ability to express their beliefs.

Why does it have to be one or the other? Why cant we use science, or evolution, to explain how god got stuff done. "God works in mysterious ways," member?

I believe that science is true. But its the evolution thing that i disagree with. fish dont turn to cats which turn to monkeys. it doesnt happen. Dogs give birth to dogs. If I flap my arms everyday and have my kids flap their arms and their kids. One day down the line their wont be a kid born with wings.
