When I moved 'up nawth' from FL, made a habit of going to inspections with the front windows all the way down. Sold that car to a friend up here in the nawth who got busted on the first inspection & failed for the tinted front doors. There after he changed the glass in the doors for inspections, then put it back. Changing the glass was no big, but it really did annoy me that it was an issue because I told the tint shop "darkest that is 50-state legal".

 

I don't work for them, but my friend does and I was lucky enough to be asked to be his co driver

50-state legal tint would be no added tint. It comes with whatever it had from the factory and that's it.

x2, if you told a shop '50 state legal' tint, they should have turned you away. They just wanted your money and did what was likely legal for that state.

 

Yeah... Was hoping to not be there till 6 since I was hoping to go mow my father in law's grass today, since he's still in Portugal, and I have to do mine and my buddy's tomorrow, since he's in Portugal too.

That's because my state is awesome. Unless you're towing a large trailer without towing mirrors, or your tires stick out too far past the fenders...

I'm glad I don't have the STi anymore if this inspection stuff is as bad as they say. People are fearing if the ECU is reflashed at all you'll get flagged, let alone whether all the monitors are set correctly.

My only concern will be if they change the rules on ABS / TCS lights being on. Currently they're a non-failure situation, but if the state decides to make it a fail, I could be in trouble in the future. The Vette's body control module is a known failure point on the car. Mine is currently working (knock on wood) as it had been replaced prior to my purchase. The problem is that they all tend to eventually fail. GM doesn't make the pre-2001 part any longer and no one knows how to properly repair them. The 2001-2004 modules can be repaired, but it's not a plug and play to the older cars. The older modules run anywhere from $1,000 - 1,500 used on the forums and I suspect as more fail, the price will just increase. If my failed, I was just going to let it be because who needs ABS / TCS, but if it's a failure and I can't drive the car anymore, that's a big deal.

I'll be curious on how tight they actually clamp down on aftermarket exhaust. I've got a Corsa axle back that's nearly silent at idle so hopefully they don't listen in.
