From what I'm thinking is that once they figure out how long this will take and how much money will be spent (since inspection will probably at least double in time to do) whether they back off or what. From my understanding is that the state found a new company to subcontract out the inspections and that's why all this BS is happening

Right, in NH it can only be factory tint on the front windows. At least that is how I understood it.

I really need to start paying attention to this BS... I have the truck tuned, it should still pass inspection by any standards but if I can get failed just for being reflashed, I could be in trouble also. There has to be some sort of 'grandfathering' clause I would imagine, or hope...

You have to get the ECU reflashed for the TRD s/c which is a factory option and as far as I know can be ordered in MA. So I'm not too sure about the reflashing stuff

In ford ids you can tell if the vehicle has been tuned and all monitors have set. The state's system I don't think has the advancements that ford has put into their own software. But a potential warranty issues versus the state trying to know your business is a scam

That can't be quite right. I can't believe there's a state that sets the window tint limit at 0%.
But if there is, the shop should have had a conversation with me at that point about doing the door windows differently from the rest of the windows.
As it was, the next day I was lightly rear-ended, so I went back & had them remove the tinting they left on the window where the CHMSL (3rd brake light) is.
LOL - on reflection, maybe they weren't that good. Although the tinting was bubble free & lasted at least a decade before I lost track of the car.

Had my truck tinted at the dealer then inspected by the dealer prior to pick up, my front windows are 25% ceramic lumar tint. So next year I should pass.

Yeah, if I have a warranty issue, I know I'm screwed. I didn't tune it until my warranty was pretty much run out anyways. I'll cross 100k miles this year so I'm not worried about Ford at this point. Good to know the state won't be able to tell or hassle me. I pass emissions just fine, I don't have anything turned off. Most of my 'tune' is just adjusting shift points and taking the lag out of the drive by wire system.

I had to double check to see that your not in a third gen. This sounds like most 3rd gen haters need.

Haha. No, I did the F150 mod a couple years ago. I didn't really mind it stock, but the tune is much better. I still use manual mode when towing on hilly highways because I don't like the shift logic but otherwise, the tune is great.

I actually like the shift logic on mine, mostly. Except for the overly aggressive downshifting on hills it mostly shifts at the same RPM range that I would if I were shifting it manually. The 2.7 has a different torque curve than the 5.0, obviously, but I feel like they did a pretty good job mapping it out.

Agreed the 5.0 needs a tiny bit of refinement from the factory for an enthusiast. The mapping is crazy iirc 47 intake and 34 exhaust maps Avalible per cylinder. The line pressure shift points are excellent for allowing the trans not to slip into gear, as they all do from the factory so you can't feel it shifting

I was going to make my own but at that price, I can't go wrong. Most of these were in the $600 range, even that one at other retailers is in the $5-600 range. If I built it out of pressure treated, I'd have a lot more than that into it but it would admittedly be well overbuilt.
Actually, the tune shifts much smoother than the stock shifting. In stock form, the 1-2 shift was never overly smooth and 2-3 wasn't great either. They certainly weren't jarring by any means but they weren't smooth. The tune I have now is buttery smooth shifting. :D

yeah, and if the wood they give me craps out or rots quickly, at least I can use it as a template for the new boards in a few years. It sounds like, if I treat it after I assemble it, it will last as long as my kids will be using it.
I bought the SCT X4 hand held tuner. That comes with a preloaded tune for my truck. Then, I went out and bought a few custom tunes. I'm currently running Tuning by Oz's Omega tune. If you buy the tuner from a shop that creates custom tunes, you can usually get a package deal. I bought the tuner through More Power Tuning and got 3 of their custom tunes for I think $400. The Omega tune is more expensive, but is advertised as having a broader range than other tunes and is $150 by itself. Most other tunes, you get a specific tune for the octane you're running and then either, towing, performance or racing. With the Omega, it's one tune that does it all.

The big thing I found was, make sure you're with someone reputable. Some irresponsible tuners have blown up engines because they got too aggressive with their tunes. I did a LOT of research before buying.

Never heard of 50-state legal tint before. The front windows are already 70% tinted from the factory. In states like RI, that 70% is already the legal limit for the front windows.
