Thanks again guys! Would not been able to do this without yall. Got an alignment today from firestone (that lifetime alignment though) they said I need new steering bushings - glad I got that lifetime!

steering bushings are relatively easy. get the poly kit. Energy suspension makes one, I think.

that's nice. Should've done them when I had the tie rods off but forgot to order them before it was too late. I think those are the only bushings I'm going to do. The control arms look like something I do not want to deal with at this point in time

I just bought new lower control arms when I did mine. Looked at all the write-ups and felt the wallet-ache was better than the headache.

The other option is taking them in to a shop and having the press work done there.

I wore out my steering rack bushings fairly early on due to jumping my truck too much, and I replaced them with poly; they work great, but my steering column rattles more than it used to now. I'm OK with it on my truck, but thought you should know.

Yeah I've seen write ups where people cut and burn them out. I'd rather just buy new ones too. Another day though! Is there a way to tell if I need new ones sooner rather than later? Or is it not a major thing that really needs to be replaced.

From my reading that's what I saw too. Vibrations are sent to the steering column but the steering response was a lot more solid. The writes up don't look too hard as well. I'll gather parts for that soon

    for my future reference

the steering bushings are relatively straightforward. shitty part is trying to get things pressed in given the tight quarters in not completely removing the rack.

as for the lower control arms, there is a bushing kit that has them already in metal sleeves. Just have to have old ones pressed out and new ones pressed in. Don't remember the brand.

You'll want to buy all new seals and bearing. I can get you the part numbers this weekend when I have time to find them from when I did the same. Pulling the axle is easy. Then just take the axle, bearings and seal to the dealership for pressing. Napa might be able to do it as well.

And you'll want to get new brake shoes. Oh, and lots of brake cleaner. You'll want to make sure the drum assembly is super clean.

Anyone from Silver City? I was planning on doing my 20k and a CPS recall but not sure if I should go there or head over to Phoenix.

Have you read this thread on White Line LCA Bushings? I'm wanting to do this as well. I just keep finding other projects instead...

That's the brand! Still don't remember who did it, Nick or Chris or Scott. They dropped the LCAs and bushings off at a shop and the shop pressed old ones out and new ones in.

I'd be down for a bushing day sometime! Once I fix axle seal and do the upper ball joints and spend money on a bumper and winch and figure out what I am going to do about this water pump and timing belt coming up  :boom:

Feels so endless sometimes... I'm tempted to find someone selling a decent used set of lower arms and replace the bushings in those to minimize the downtime

LOTS of wiring, dual battery setup, Solar charging system, with some random lights spread around here and there.
Front or rear bumper? I have a custom rear bumper that I made sitting in the garage I'd like to get rid of.

Looking for a front, but also interested in a rear. For a first gen?
