Upshift---BEEP! So, after SSP disables from upshift or downshift it can be reengaged with a simple flip to D and back to S. It then assumes the gear based on the respective current RPM. I think that is the way it's supposed to work. Am I correct in that assumption?

Yes, that is correct. When you flip to D and back to S to re-engage SSP, it will index to whatever gear is appropriate for the current speed and accelerator position.

This is covered a bit in the operating video as well..

If I'm about to drive on the highway, shouldn't I shift from D to S and then up two to 6th so that I'm not limited to 4th gear?

If you are using SSP, then no you should not manually shift up to 6. It will typically engage at S4 but will make all upshifts and downshifts automatically from there.

I use the SGII for the trans temps and it works fine. I'm actually running two splitters as I use SGII, SSP, and a Verizon Hum unit. No issues so far, but also do not think I'm looking at the slow refresh rate stuff.

Selling mine if anyone wants one.

Id rather have something that would Keep it in a gear instead of letting it shift at this point. With the camper, tires, etc its just not making a difference anymore

I really like the SSP for normal driving around town, but I towed my RZR again yesterday up some long steep grades...and it was still shift..shift...shift...shift. Ended up putting in manual shift mode and having to let the engine run at 4k rpms to keep any speed.

Normal around town driving is very good. However, the speed limits I mostly travel (15, 30, 45) dictate shift points that never get it out of 4th. In my neighborhood it never leaves 2nd. The reason the 3rd Gen Tacos get so much better mileage than previous Gens are the OEM shift points for 5th and 6th keep RPMs down. That said, OEM shift points suck what with all the hunting, etc. I'm noticing a very steep drop in MPG in around town driving so far on the first 100 miles or so using SSP consistently. I don't expect very good mileage on this tank. Will update numbers at next fill up. I was getting 20-21 around town before. I have the proper size stock 17 (265/65) inch tires. All the 3rd Gen Tacomas have the same revolutions per mile for their 16/17/18 inch stock rims with the tire aspect ratio sized appropriately.

Fairly consistent with my experience; my daily 2 mile commute is stop & go 30-40 mph & I see a big hit on mpg as expected (especially when cold engine.) My mpg is generally better otherwise, especially on "country" road drives under 50mph. Also worth noting that my highway driving mpg at 65-75 has improved significantly with out the dueling overdrive gears.

Also of note, I've had an abnormal amount of highway driving lately & this truck is one of the least enjoyable driving experiences I've ever had. SSP is a stark improvement, but on my long 1-3 mile gradual grade climbs I'm ready to shoot myself listening to the constant on/off rpm swing between 2000-3000. Why can't I be the one to dictate rpm somewhere in the middle via the pedal according to driving conditions???

Still very happy w/SSP & it's benefits in certain conditions.

We're picking up a small travel trailer this w/e so towing experience should prove interesting... or possibly push me over the edge to move on.

....good luck. Not hit on the SSPro...the Tacoma + towing with any incline = +4k rpms to keep speed

Recently , as in Saturday :). Bought a SSP and Pedal Commander from a forum member.
I decided to hook up the SSP today. First off it was as easy as the SSP showed it to be. Next after driving it 75 miles today after install this thing is at least as great as the as the company makes it out to be.
It works completely as shown. It's great :)

You've seen the answers to your question below your post. I have this product and will tell anyone it's probably the best money I gave spent. There is a very noticeable difference, giving the illusion of more power. The shifting actually shifts where it should. I am not, I repeat not bashing the OVTune but I haven't been sold on the product simply because of the reviews or lack thereof. There are thousands of posts about the product under its one main post. About 99.9 % of them are not helpful at all, asking for shipping dates and stuff like that. But back to the SSP....it's definitely worth it and you will definitely notice a huge difference for the better.

Your right this is absolutely a product worth investing in. SSP actually makes my Tacoma better. It's not just a fun Mod, it makes an automatic transmission, 3rd gen Tacoma better!
I already love this truck, this just helped me cure the only symptom I had with my truck!
So before you go buy a TRD PRO grill, for 1/2 the money buy your self something that will make your truck better .
    Amen brother Amen :) lol
Soap box is available for next convert !

Anyone having problems with their SSP's randomly disabling itself? As of this week, going down the highway at 70-75mph it has randomly disabled itself once per day. Not sure if it is due to the heat or what, but it's very annoying especially since I can't re-enable it unless I slow down - which isn't very safe on the highway with traffic flowing in all lanes at 70+mph. All connections are solid, no issue there.
