    Sad, isn't it?

I mean, if it were a base or mid trim, I get it. But on a Limited?!

I just find it weird that they put disks all around on the tundra for years but give the tacomas the shit end of the stick.

Trust me, that's not the only thing Toyota shorted the Tacoma on....

I think youre missing the point to this thread. Yes I know that, but I also had a corolla with rear drums that I drove for 80k miles before selling it, and not once did they squeal. That car was $18k.

A $37k truck of the same brand should NOT squeal either. While I hate drums (yet I still accepted it because of the reputation of Tacoma), I cannot accept having to "clean the brakes" every 10k miles to keep them quiet.

I have just under 12k - no squeaks. I know of a 45k+ audi q5 where the new rear discs squeaked, shit happens and the dealer corrected it. My Civic when traded it in 112k - drums - no squeaks drove that baby across country twice. I do not see a problem with drums and if I hated them on a 32k truck, I would not have spent my money on this vehicle.

Mine have the same squeal. I don't really care enough to address right away, but tire rotation is due this weekend, so I'll probably check for the glazing on those rusty ass drums.

Thankfully it wasn't too much fuss to open the drums, so a quick 20 min on each side to drown them in cleaner then blast air should take care of it. I just do not want to continually do this because I do feel it will get harder to put back together as it ages.

I'm going to rough it up a bit with some 120 grit while I'm in there.

Finally addressed it this weekend. Used a crosshatch sanding pattern with some rough sanding pads and repainted the rusty drums. All is good at 15k mileage.

You mean to tell me you put lubricant on the brake shoe and drum braking surfaces? Tell me you're not serious please.

Where the shoes contact that backing plate and the wheel cylinder/ adjuster actuates the shoes. That lube may or may not be thick enough to stay put for drums since it's in aerosol form. But you're not supposed to use much anyways.

It was my understanding the sound is coming from vibrations caused by the braking surface itself. Is that not the case?
