    What brand is your's?

Mine's an edgestar so probably not the most effiecient. I wrapped it in reflective bubble wrap. That seems to add an extra day.

I definitely love sleeping in a ground tent... when backpacking. It's an awesome feeling setting up a campsite knowing that you carried all that shit on your back. It's been years, but I'm due for a trip before the snow.

Also love the RV when wheeling. I've grown accustomed to standing in my truck... ;)

    Ask @Iggy or @Moogle. It's fucking awesome.

I have a DR650 and have used both hard and soft saddlebags... if you are on more technical stuff you really don't want hard bags, they create a perfect fulcrum for breaking bones.

That's what everyone tells me. I'll probably end up getting both.

How do you like the DR650. What attracts me to is the simple reliability. And that I can get a giant fuel tank for it.

I'm probably heading the same route you took or similar at least. I want to do some multi month travelling in my truck at some point.

Yeah I have a whole different mentality when backpacking, I don't even like sleeping in a tent unless I have to.

But car camping is car camping and there's very little reason to not take full advantage of it IMO.

I'm thinking it should be a liesurly trip. I've been doing nothing but hard trips the past few years trying to climb 14ers. They always end up being a bunch of 20 hour days.

I take the backpacking mentality with me when camping out of the truck. Pack light, but with all the most comfortable shit you can carry.

You have dual batterys. So was it your second battery that it ran off or just off your primary. I would be mor inclined to run a fridge if your saying you only powered it off one battery. But by one do you mean 2 on board

I have a marine switch to bridge both batteries if I want but normally don't unless I'm driving to charge both batteries or winching. Fridge is hooked directly to the second battery (only winch, fridge, and compressor hooked to it).

I've been running dual batteries for about 4 years. I'm paranoid and wouldn't run a fridge without this setup. The cheaper Bluesea battery controller is $80, and the wires & circuit breaker are probably $100 - $150. Cheaper AGM's can be had for $150. It's a great investment.

My old 4WC came with 2 non-AGM Walmart $75 marine batteries. With the solar panels, I never ended up connecting it electrically to the truck. Ran the fridge on hi all the time and let the sun do the rest. That's another option.
