That almost looks like it's just a cutout for an higher tier package power mirror.

@Artimus thats probably exactly what that is, with these stock mounted go pro housing. But yeah that cut out was not the focus of my post.

    Holy smokes. Seriously?
Forum members, I wish you all a life so charmed that this is the biggest burden you have to bear in your day.
If you're really not convinced, go paruse the headliners in any used car lot or junkyard.

@Gus Gorilla glad you took the time out of your day to post that. I already looked at other cars on the lot at my 15000 mile service and confirmed this was standard on the taco as . I posted this thread to get other people's opinion on this. How's the air up there??

Up here in the real world? Where the grown ups live? It's good, but full of common sense and the initiative it takes to find your own answers in the world instead of trolling a few hundred people in a forum. Come up here and breathe deep.

I have what I can only describe as a rattle (it sounds like someone is rubbing two pieces of paper together) where the headliner and the windshield meet. It shakes over literally every bump. Any recommendations on how to quiet it down?

Did you ever resolve this? I have a noise that I think is coming from the headliner area, sounds like a "crinkle" sort of noise when I go over a bumpy road (and Austin has a lot of them). Constant, pretty loud and annoying...it almost sounds like it is coming from the dash but I think that is just an aural illusion. I can sort of recreate it by pressing on the headliner near the windshield, sounds like the foam insulation spacers or something is making the crinkling noise. Needs to be fixed!

Hey man, hopefully I can help! I shoved a thinly cut piece of felt from walmart up in between the windshield and the headliner, mainly because I didn't feel like going to the dealer until my next service was due. A few weeks after this, I was driving home from VA and a massive hawk flew right into my windshield, shattering it severely. The sucker was over 30 pounds according to the cop that took my report so we could have it towed. Anyway, had the windshield replaced and I haven't had an issue since. Since you've identified it, you shouldn't have a problem getting the dealer to fix it. My only experience asking a dealer to fix a rattle was hell because they "couldn't replicate the problem." This was on my 2016 taco before everyone identified that speaker and A pillar rub.

Did you ever figure out what it was? I'm having a similar issue. Sounds like two pieces that came unglued and sound like two sticky surfaces unsticking whenever I go over bumps.

Actually the annoying crinkling noise seemed to go away on its own. I still have a few rattles I need to hunt down. I think one is from the plastic "conduit" that holds the wires going to the rear view mirror. I intend to put a zip tie around it to hold it tight to the wires and see if that helps. Another is what sounds like the foam tape ungluing near the driver side seatbelt (ie near my ear!).

But the headliner noise I haven't heard in a while, or maybe I got used to it, but it used to drive my crazy so I think perhaps it stopped.
