I've been burnt by 400V DC on an overhead crane in a factory, shocked by 240V AC when working on a refrigeration compressor, and badly burnt by 12V DC when a metal watch band came in contact with a tractor battery +post and a metal dashboard at the same time. It melted the watch band before I could get my arm out of harms way. It ALL hurts when you get "bit". It can all cause trouble.

And when your lights don't work, it can be very frustrating....

a rare instance of 12v causing damage! with the current of a battery it definitely can, i'm not denying that. but usually 12volts isn't a high enough voltage to travel through the skin. i can imagine that watch band got pretty hot, pretty fast!

The battery melted the watch band....That's where the burn came from. Pretty nasty one, all the way around my wrist. It was literally glowing white hot aluminum and brass plated steel....Probably should have phrased it "burnt BECAUSE of 12v, rather than burnt BY 12v....Regardless, it hurt like hell!

I've seen 12v and 24v used to weld while I was in the Army.

Yep....Backorder. I would have already ordered mine had they been in stock. Decided to wait a bit to see how much I actually NEED them.

I'm looking at both. If I put a topper on the truck (which I plan on) I MAY do the 2.0's. Adding 100lbs with bumper, probably a swing out tire carrier and spare at some point, a topper, along with the skids and sliders adding some weight to rear axle....Just gotta get it all on the truck and evaluate.

Getting lit up by 48v DC is fun!

Used to install telecom main power/backup systems. I lust after just one of those big bitches in my truck!

hit my balls once stepping over an electric fence near the barn...
Was as bad as youd think though.

I use to grab that fence and straight faced say it wasn't working just so i could watch someone else get a jolt from it.

Supposedly I use to put keys in outlets as a toddler and giggle when it got me. All my parents keys had burn marks and I could get through any "safety" trick they tried.

    Doubt i'm so resilient now.

I've been tagged by a fence before. Once.

Never again if it can be helped

    speaking of electrical...
if i had a light bar (or a few of em) to wire...

Small gauge wire from battery to fuse to switch and then from switch to relay.

Bigger wire from battery to fuse to relay to light.

Ground to chassis from relay and from lights.

That right? I rarely mess with relays but i've got some shielded 22ga on hand that I could use on the switches.

I've used cat5 many times for running switches to relays. Works really well and takes up very little space.

I'm an electrician by trade. I'm a far superior electrician then anyone else in this thread but that doesn't mean i have better advice on certain things then others. Everyone seems to be on top of the more basics of car wiring and gives great advice. Theres no need to reiterate things others have said. Car wiring sucks. Theres no disputing that. I don't envy Brent, Daniel, myself or anyone else running wires in their trucks. Haha

i had wondered about that but read mixed things about safety putting power over them. Since it's just switches though, should be low amp draw i guess.

Since cat6 cable has 4 pairs in it, i could do 4 switches and only route 1 line through cab.

Are ethernet cables shielded? Does it matter? I don't want to cause noise in radio or cb from routing wires for other switches.

A pair of lights going on top of shell so wires won't be short either way. Left & right on individual switches to use as "camping lights".

I'm sure you can get shielded cat5/6, but I never had any issues with noise from the wiring. The noise usually comes from a bad ground or the rf field generated by the light when it's powered on. It is nice to be able to run two pieces of cat5/6 and operate 8 switches.
