There's a $0.30-0.40 per gallon penalty for driving the chebby, but that's not all, there's also a higher insurance premium increase on a V-8 and the added gvw I'm guessing and extra $300-400 more a year take that and add it over ten years and whooa!

Again thanks but no thanks, my Taco run great, cheaper and better re-sale value at the end to boot!
    Can you beat that??

    Cheers!

http://www.gminsidenews.com/forums/f22/2016-fuel-economy-numbers-drop-8-speed-226497/ GMC/Chevrolet trucks have shown a drop in MPGs with a 8 speed transmission:facepalm:along with having to use Premium gasoline(required by GM) at the same time with the great 6.2l engine, if you run the Regular gas in them you could severely damage the engine at your own risk and you will hear the Engine knocking like crazy. your better off buying a Dodge at least its a heep that can use Regular gas and get 12 MPGs as opposed to GM.

Does that Ford come with the 10 speed transmission? After dealing with the Tacoma's new six speed, I'm extremely skeptical of new, fuel saving transmissions with extra gears. Seems the full size trucks have it figured out with the 6 speed (not sure why this got lost on the Tacoma and it's drunk transmission) so I'd avoid the trucks with 8 and even 10 speed transmissions.

The 6.2's don't need premium, the manual even says you can run regular 87. And even if it did, do you really think running regular would severely destroy the engine ( the answer is doubt it) since the ECU will sense lower octane and retard detonation.

That Eco Boost will get shitty gas mileage with that lift and 35s. I'd rather have the V8 which will be the same or better on mpgs if that is even a concern.

the GM manual states to use a 91 octane or greater and also states using a 87 octane will result in the engine knocking/pinging and reduced MPGS this is what the manual says to do if you want to use 87 octane and damage the engine go ahead

I'm a Toyota truck guy (4 Tacoma's and 2 Tundras). Before I bought this Tacoma I test drove a Tundra (too big, interior felt cheap, especially the center dash console controls/stereo, for a $48K truck), but the motor was AWESOME. I never really considered a Ford or GM cause they both look like "old-man trucks" to me and I'm Toyota truck bias, but the Chevy dealers around here were having STUPID discounts (like $12k off MSRP) so I went and test drove a Silverado 1500 Z71 Off-Road 4x4 with the 5.3. The level of equipment was impressive for the price (it was less than my Tacoma's MSRP and even after I got a discount off the Tacoma MSRP, the Chevy was still less than $2k more), it certainly was better than the Tacoma's. It's engine was damn impressive too. I just couldn't get past the looks, unnecessary size (for me) and bland interior (the rear-window not opening pissed me off lol). I ended up buying the Tacoma, but after living with it for 1500 miles, I'm underwhelmed....but not enough to trade it in on anything else...yet. I'm hoping an aftermarket tune will fix my big gripes with it.

But back to the GM, if you decide to go with it I think the 6.2 is overkill unless you have plans to do a significant amount of HEAVY towing. That 5.3 was VERY potent.

I don't understand your logic. These are completely different class trucks from the Tacoma.

Chevy but only with the 6.2 the f150s are nice and that 3.5 eco boost hauls ass. I would choose a fx4 f150 over a z71 Silverado any day though. Denali is still king if you got the bread.

What is so hard to figure out...they both have 4 doors, 4x4, decent ground clearance and a short p/u bed. 2nd/3rd Gen Tacomas are not MUCH smaller than full-size trucks. If you are not doing 75%+ city driving (like me) then the size difference is negligible and at least with the FS you get a V8 option(s) that greatly increase functionality (payload and towing).

I personally like ford as a whole.

The two choices... the Chevy wins. Long bed, better need bars, and I'm not a fan of the flares on the ford. Also, I bet that Chevy sounds WAY better.

Honestly tho. For the bread your looking at spending why not just get a diesel? F250/2500. It's really not much bigger, gets comparable mileage and is just much more capable.

When the taco goes. My only logical choice will be either the f250 or 2500 gmc. I find myself needing one too often.

But you know your needs best, I'd drive both and compare cost of ownership. Pick which one you like. Both are sharp looking

I wish I needed a full size to justify buying one.. They're just too big for me and It would be a pain to park at home. To be honest, I don't even need a truck, id be fine with an outback

My vote goes to the Ford! My pops has an F-150, solid truck, gets the job done.

The ford tech's wouldn't even choose the Ecoboost engines. Turbo's seem to be the hot thing at the moment to boost MPG and power but is it really needed? My 2017 Silverado has the 5.3L and I average about 22 mpg on road trips and about 18 mpg daily driving. Don't get me wrong, the new F150's are really nice if you get one loaded just hope you never have to pay for body work either
