Toyota has confirmed that production at its scheduled new plant in Mexico will be pushed back to the first half of 2020 rather than 2019 as initially planned.
$1 billion Guanajuato plant but last week, announced that the Corolla would instead be built at a new U.S. facility constructed alongside Mazda.

Now, the Mexican facility will build the Toyota Tacoma pickup from 2020.

In a statement to Automotive News, a Toyota spokeswoman said “With the production model change to the Tacoma pickup, the start of production will consequently be in the first half of 2020. However, we will make our utmost effort to advance the timing in order to minimize the impact to suppliers and the local community."

Just another reason to wait or the re-introduced Ford Ranger to the US market. The Rangers I saw in England a few moths ago looked nice.

That just means they were originally engineering the factory to build corollas and now they're going to have to redo a bunch of stuff to build tacomas.

Guanajuato Wages and education level are even lower than Tijuana Mexico. Sad race to the bottom. Hopefully Trump guts NAFTA .

Wages in Manufacturing in Mexico averaged $2.49 an Hour in U.S. Dollars from 2007 until 2017, reaching an all time high of $3.60 an Hour in December of 2013 and a record low of $1.90 an Hour in January of 2017.

Something about an $2.49 an hour "Auto Manufacturing Technician" building my $40,000 U.S. dollar truck that just doesn't seem right.People always say"you get what you pay for"

    Too few to list.
Can't really compare the U.S. going rate with other countries. $2.49 maybe the minimum wage over there or more.

Gasoline is $3.00 a gallon in Mexico.Try filling up your tank when your gross pay before taxes is $2.49 an hour. This is just one example of how distorted and corrupt and can be down there.

    Corruption breeds poverty.

Alternate headline: Local food truck burritos did not meet Toyota's standards, are given extra 6 months to improve.

Jeezuz Christ, this is non-news and all of a sudden NAFTA and minimum wage is to blame and the new Ranger needs to be re-introduced. Lottsa dumbshit going on this thread.

Mexican Minimum wage was increased this year to $ 4.00 a Day - .50 Cents an Hour.
Factory workers in China now make more than they do in Mexico.
