I can feel mine get colder as the compressor cycles on/off. You know how you can feel that power loss when it cycles on? As soon as I feel that it immediately gets ice cold.

I've read that you need to stick a thermometer into the vent rather than use an IR thermometer to repeat temps coming out of an A/C vent to get an accurate reading since the air in between the IR and vent can lead to misleading readings depending on the distance between you're holding it. I'm no AC expert or anything but it does make sense.

The stick thermometer will give you an actual air temp. The laser dot ones give you surface temp.

41-42F here. I'm happy with that.

Update after just calibrating my new metal stick thermometer: Driving at 45=50 MPH it reads 45-46F on 90F day with fan speed on 2 and recirculating button off (which I never use anyway). If I set the fan speed on high it goes up a couple degrees.
    Still happy.

I don't even think mine is that cold. I will check later today, but I think I'd be happy with that. As others have said, the A/C (or lack thereof) is probably my biggest gripe with my 2012.

Edit: I just checked mine. A/C air temp was 47F @ coldest setting, high fan speed, recirc on. OAT was 65F.

I was going to say something like this as soon as I saw 31F in OP. I really doubt it. I figured if I scrolled long enough I'd find someone who also also smelled a fairy tale.

    That IR gun is out-of-whack.

My 15 will keep the cab comfortable on 100ish degree days... Takes a few minutes, but if you open your windows for the first 60 seconds and let the oven get some fresh air, and turn off recirculation when you start your AC, it cools down pretty quickly...

So I recently changed my compressor. I pretty much did everything against the rules. System was left open on a rainy damp day due to broken mounting bolts. Had gray crap in the system metal and pag oil. Replaced only the Delphi compressor with a denso. I bought a exp valve and flush for the ac, but I asked advice from a local shop, guy was a toyota tech who they set up in a shop not at Handys to do frames. After the frame crunch ended he left the dealer and kept the shop. So after the install I charged it with the do it yourself 134a in a can. Blew off the high pressure side to purge air and what ever else I could get out of it. Recharged it again and figured I'd purge the hi side again because of what came out the first time got a bunch of lapping compound gray crap. Valve stuck on me and made a mess. Using the leak light I looked like a prostitues bed sheet.
Got a can of the pag oil charge and charged it again. Works great we will see how long it lasts.

    lol whatever man my experience!
A lot of hype just like our home furnace install. I use ac like 3 times a year but using defrost mode runs your pump. And here defrost is needed. Like I said works great we will see how long it lasts

Ok so it even gets better but I thought my post was long enough.
At one point while adding the do it your self stuff, I charged while the pump was not running at idle.
Don't do this! When the pump started it overpressured and something blew off at the back of the motor not sure what. Figured something was gonna was leak. After this is when I used the pag charge figured I'd lost most my oil already.
And I'd still have the thermometer in the vent to check but the wife wanted it back!!!

Low 40s is proper vent temp for an R134a system. If the OP is really getting 31 he has a problem with low refrigerant level. It may blow cold for a bit but will freeze up the evaporator then you will have nothing. Means you have a leak in the system... and once enough leaks out the compressor won't even kick in due to low pressure cut out.

This was something I noticed within 2 weeks of buying mine in 2014. I bought it at the end of May and live in the Phoenix area so it was already over 100 outside. My issue is consistency. Many days it is so cold it hurts, however some days it blows just basic cool. I can't find anything in common with days or times that it blows un-cold air. It is a noticeable difference. Back in '14 I measured it, and it would have a 15 degree swing, cruising down the hwy at 65mph for tests.

I haven't checked the temps yet, but noticed like everyone else, the ac is weak when at idle. If I'm going to be at a light for a while, I shift to N or P, and raise rps to 1000 - 1100, just enough to keep the ac working good. If I've been driving for a while, it's usually not needed, as it's cold when going down the road.
