Thanks Rob and Susan ( my youngest sister's name - who just called to check on her brother). I appreciate the well wishes. Look like a raccoon with purple rings around his eyes but expect the swelling to be less tomorrow with bruising diminishing in a few more days.

How's the finger doing Ms. Susan? Last time I checked in you had a problem with one of your digits. Hope it's all better now.
Hi Rob, how is everything going in the great State of Alaska?
    Have a great day all.

Hope everything ends up well Gary.

I didn't have "surgery" this past Monday, just another "procedure" with my dermatologist .... carved on my right cheek and left shoulder. Stiches come out next Monday. This woman is good, but she sure likes to carve on people. I'm beginning to think she's related to Charles Manson.

Got our latest issue of BOTTOMLINE yesterday .... interesting article on the front page. A noted auto researcher listed twelve vehicles that were not involved in a single accident that resulted in the driver's death (2012 - 2015). One of them was the Toyota Tacoma Double Cab long-bed. Interesting. Unfortunately, my 2012 is an Access Cab.

    Morning all:

Ken, last time I mowed I tore up the bottom of the yard and had to patch the ruts in a few spots because it was so wet. I actually didn't mow a small area because of the possibility of getting the mower stuck in mud! :(
I was just looking at a new snow shovel, if this weather pattern carries over into the winter I/we are going to need a snow shovel for sure! :(

Many thanks for all of the well wishes from my friends here on TW.

Tex, my eye surgeon is a lady also and wields a really sharp scalpel. Bet she would make a good deer hunting buddy. She could do the delicate stuff and I could do the rest. Hope you recover quickly.

Carl, we are having an extended monsoon season here too. I feel sorry for the lawn care companies here who get rained out at least part of most days.

It's worth the aggravation. I lost an uncle because he let some skin blotches on his back go unchecked for too long.

Seems like I skimmed over a few key posts in here. Dam.
I do hope everyone's procedures are complete and successful.

Been de-stressing past few days. I could get use to this way to easy but I still need to chase the green stuff.
I'm still not convinced I will be able to retire.. Lol

    One shuttle driver just retired.
    He was in his 80's.
Dam that's way to long to be owing someone your time..
Ahhhh I'll play the lottery tonight.
    That will do it..
    Hehehehe
    Enjoy your weekend people

Mike, I was retired from my full time job for most of 10 years and could not make myself believe that there would be a time when I did not feel compelled to chase my hobbies six days a week. Eventually I found myself spending 2 or 3 days a week sitting around too much. Since I have been driving cars for Enterprise Remarketing 2 or 3 days a week I have found that I enjoy the driving AND my hobbies more.
Sounds weird I know after waiting for years to retire but seems to work for me and I suspect for you also.

    Life is good!

P.S. Not to mention the extra greenbacks are handy for supporting hobbies without touching the family budget.

I think Gary I have my understanding of it all.
I don't think it's the retirement per say.
I think it's the "have to" instead of the "want to".
I have to get up to go to work. No matter what.
I'm just sick of having to. Hobbies are great. I can't fish all the time, can't race all the time.
I think it all comes down to I want a choice.
When I first started retirement was 62. Then 65 now 67. What's going to happen to me is if I could ever get to full retirement on the week before I do they will pass it to 69 and deny my retirement.
So if i can slow down and still get med coverage in a year or so I will.
I will never be rich. I will always have to work. But it will be under my conditions, not someone else's. And I think that's where it lies with me in my mind.

Mike, you definitely hit the #1 reason people or at least me wanted to retire. I had lived my whole life doing what other people wanted me to do when they wanted me to do it. Yes, I understand when we work we are essentially selling our time. But I wanted to see what it was like doing what I wanted to do when I wanted to do it or not do it at all if that is what I felt like. I guess you could say that is the ultimate freedom. I have decided now that I still need some structure in my life but enjoy doing it on my terms.

I can tell you are going to enjoy retirement even if like me you are semi retired. I really enjoy my current status. It doesn't hurt that I can take off anytime I want to since we have a pool of about 70 drivers and usually only need 30-35 on any given day. No nights and no weekends are good also.

They won't. Still, do yourself a favor and sit in on a "WTF is Social Security and When, Where and How TF should I take it?" seminar. For a married couple there are hundreds of options to consider.
This is my plan. I've slowed down already; I hope to keep working reduced hours for another year or two, at which time I'll pull the ripcord. Or perhaps if they still want me around I'll go to a *greatly* reduced schedule. Or I'll get a job at a hardware store part time. We'll just have to wait and see. One thing I'm pretty sure of is that I won't like having 24x7x365 completely unfilled -- I'm too much of a workaholic for that!
I know a guy who is pretty well set money-wise. He's still planning to work until he's 70 just so he can max out SS. I think he's crazy. If you can afford to stop, STOP. And, like you said, make it be on your terms from there on out.

    Afternoon all:
    You guys/gal had/have it good! :D :crapstorm:

Scheduled 6 shifts for the most part, finish up Sat. middle shift and go out Sun. night for Mon., finish up Sat. middle shift and return Sun. morning for day shift, work 2 or 3 shifts in one week, work Sun., Mon., Tues., Wed., off Thurs., work Fri., off Sat. Then there's thanksgiving: Off Thurs., Fri., Sat., Sun., and return to work Mon. That's OK unless you deer hunt, you must work the scheduled day before the paid holiday and the next scheduled day after in order to get paid the holiday, so if you would take off that Mon., and you were scheduled 6 days that week, you would lose the paid holiday and also a time and a half shift.
That's only the scheduling part of it!
I DON'T MISS THAT PLACE ONE BIT!

It should be illegal to make a man miss opening day of deer season. Should a federal or at least a state holiday.

When my 3 sons were growing up opening day of deer season always came the Friday before Thanksgiving. By coincidence report cards came out the week before opening day. My standing rule was: all A's & B's and they skipped school and hunted opening day. Anything less and they went to school. Surprising what a motivation that was. Now opening day come on Saturday. The school system lobbied the state legislature and game and fish to change opening day to Saturday because Federal school funds are based on attendance and the schools were losing funds due to ansenteeism.

The high school I went to simply closed on the first day of deer season. We made the day up somewhere else.

    Morning all:
Lets see, having off for the first day of archery, muzzle loader, buck, doe, and flintlock all sound good to me! :D
Oh yea, and if you took off on the first day of buck either while in school or at work it was an unexcused absence and you needed a doctors excuse to be covered :(, usually the family doc understood, no problem! ;)
SO; if 30 guys took off the first day of buck, and 29 had doctors excuses, the one guy got the flack, total BS but that was the game!

The schools here would accept a written note from the parent. In my case the boys were usually "out of town" since our hunting club was "out of town".

I am sure the school teacher knew better but it was somewhat a rite of passage at the rural schools.
