it worked for me, my truck had a over heated pinion bearing from having low gear oil(my fault) I was hearing noise from the rear. the mechanic took me and the truck for a ride told me straight off the pinion was bad and needed replacement, went back to his shop wrote me up an estimate on repairs take it schedule an appointment or your free to leave with no charge for diagnosis. these driveline mechanics are so experienced dealing with rear diff,4x4,trans,u joint issues they can diagnose these issues quite easily sometimes without even using a lift. Why waste anymore time going to Toyota if the howling is ruining you life :notsure: go to the experts, its a FREE diagnosis.

It's getting louder again. It did quiet it down for a while at first but it was still there just very faint. Have been noticing it more again lately.

Toyota has been highly inconsistent on the Howling Rears, they swap some out, they say a fix for the problem is definitely in the works, and then the BS its normal reply, plus not being able to explain why some do it and others do not. It is probably a good idea to go to the Dealer to see what they say, cannot hurt anything.

Truck's under warranty. I understand where your coming from, but most people don't want to pay for this fix until they're absolutely out of options from Toyota. I think people will start using this solution soon.

we all know that Toyota wont be replacing or addressing anymore rear differentials due to howling noise FACT so why waste anymore time going over a mute point. first off there hasn't been a truly unbiased diagnosis done by any independent shops on the issue so everyone knows truthfully if there is or isn't any issue mechanically with it, as I said before diagnosis is a free service at most all Driveline shops, they make money doing the repair.

Diagnosis is free, what im saying is get a non Toyota expert evaluate the rear all you get are people who think they know what it is not an expert driveline/axle mechanic

Why do you assume that as Fact, I think it depends on the Dealer as mine was just swapping a new rear into a QS OR a couple weeks ago for it. There is nothing wrong with taking your truck in to see what they say and it's under warranty.

yes but did the swap eliminate the Howling all people here who had the swap say it did nothing for the howl case in point Mr. Smith. if a Dealer replaced a Rear differential they would be doing it on their own dime cause Toyota corporate told dealers they wont cover the expenses. Why is it so hard for you to understand that getting a Non Toyota diagnosis on this issue is not a bad thing when in fact Toyota is the ones giving you the circle jerk it seems that you don't really want to know the truth and are fighting against it.

Interesting. I have seen this before in big companies I worked for. I can only wonder if something big is going on such that Toyota's legal team told them to cease the replacements, as that admits fault.

I have no idea if that solved the issue as I don't know who the customer was, seems to work for some people and sometimes for others it gets worse. I have absolutely no issue with someone taking their truck to an independent shop or back to the dealer.

My colleague had the same experience. Changed 3rd member at 12k, problem returned. 125k Platinum warranty to pacify him. I am thinking Toyota may not have what it takes to fix the problem. As an engineer, myself, that bothers me.

back to the dealer is pointless, so whats the next step>independent shop and its free too boot, whats wrong with that, especially if its getting worse. if an expert axle mechanic gives a diagnosis of a bad pinion bearing or other you can take that info to the dealer or better Toyota corp instead of what someone says they think it is on the interwebs

Anyone else notice how high the percentage of howling rear ends is? That seems significant.
