Seems like a dry sump gear box or an IFS rear transaxle to eliminate a differential and its associated windage/power loss would go further to increase efficiency. Gear box windage losses are significant!

The manual will eventually die imo. Even hard core offroaders are using A/T in their monster trucks as it helps climb rocks better.
But that could be out in the future because as long as there is enough buyers out there, they'll make 'em

    Cheers!

Honestly, if the Tacoma wasn't avail in a manual I'd probably be driving a Frontier Pro-4X M/T right now.

My wife's Jeep Grand Cherokee has the electronic stop start feature and we both turn it off the second we get in. It's start the car, turn off the system, drive. It's awful and I wish there was a way to defeat it. I actually had the Jeep shut off on me when I was backing out of a space because I took too long to move forward.

I've read this all over the internet, but my Scangage tells me a different story. When I go downhill with my cruise control engaged my transmission will downshift and fuel consumption increases while mpg decreases. If the injectors 'closed' then that wouldn't happen. Even coasting on flat ground with no cruise control, fuel consumption is non-zero.

I can't speak for every vehicle out there, but I've been monitoring obd data and seen it in every vehicle I've looked at. If your fuel economy is going down when coasting, i believe you have either an issue with your device or a significant problem with your engine.

I have noticed that my Tacoma doesn't fuel cut as reliably as my Mazda cx5 did. In general, the ecu tuning is very sloppy. When fuel kicks back in near idle, it often causes lurching and loss of engine breaking.

As much as I don't like this statement, manuals are a dieing breed. Even your high end sports cars aren't offering manuals anymore. If manuals aren't offered anymore, I will run this truck into the ground.

When going downhill, in a manual, my gas cuts back on at around 1500ish rpms then it cuts back off at 2500rpm. I believe that is just fine for a manual.

I bet this is so manuals can get safety sense. I was wondering if it was going to be an automatic only package.

They'll offset with new cutting edge rear disc brakes. Toyota's skunk works has been developing this secret disc technology for the Tacoma just for this reason.

So between blind spot monitoring, parksense, collision warnings, new engine, and touch screens in almost every truck, they still managed to find another way to jack up the price another $3k?

I'm sure there's a demographic that wants all of this stuff. But the cost far exceeds the value. If you told me I could save the $5k or so Toyota charges for the touch screen in the trds by just putting a plain jane doubledin unit , I would have. And I bought new this year to avoid the price hike of next year when they're supposedly putting in all those safety monitors standard now.

Bottom line is toyta can keep some of their bs technology, I'll keep my money. That tech will cost how much? All for saving $40 In fuel a year?

I can only speak for myself, but it's not so much performance as it is driveability - throttle delays, rev hang and the like. That's the main reason I bought the tune. Oh, and who's going to snub their nose at 35 ft/lb gain midrange?

I read about this request quite often from owners of different makes. I spent about $6 on a circuit for my Honda Accord for similar purpose of switching off the traction control on start-up. The TRC was very aggressive, cutting power during anything but slow and gentle take-offs and it nearly involved me in an accident when I tried to leave an intersection in a hurry and there was a truck approaching from the cross-street.

The circuit is basically a simple Chinese made programmable cycle timer connected to the wires of the TRC (or possibly the Stop/Start) switch, plus two wires: +12V power (switched by ignition key) and negative ground. After start-up it waits 2 seconds and then activates the switch for 0.5 second. It does automatically what I used to do by hand every time I started my car. Beeper beeps and light illuminates in the dash signalling the TRC is off. Of course, the TRC switch still works normally and the TRC can be re-activated at will. There is no reason why the same setup would not work with the Start/Stop switch. It measures less than 3x2 inches.

Note: The E-Bay link does not work and needs to be retyped as it is a part of the picture and not a proper link. Or simply search for Delay-Time-Timer-Switch-Module.
