    Or you could do the MAN-ual trans mod like me (sorry it's turning into a pointless beef swinging contest in here) and then it's really hard to get them mixed up as one is a 14mm steel and the other is a 24mm aluminum and also quite a bit futher back on the driveline. :rofl:

    To each there own, I like to change my oil when it's hot as hell and usually end up wearing some in the process. However I completely respect those who aren't young and dumb like me any more and want it to be an easy and clean process. I say props to anyone who changes their own oil whatever method used. :thumbsup:

    I personally don't have one as I'm too afraid of ripping it off on something on the trail, I also like to bury my rig to the frame from time to time (aforementioned young and dumb) and I would be concerned that grit and the like would affect the ball valves's seal or ease of use.

    Lastly I'd be concerned up north that slush could pack into the openings and then refreeze and crack the brass valve, but I dunno how realistic that scenario would be. Just something to think about.

    I've never confused my oil pan for the trans. I understand it's a mistake that could happen to anyone the FIRST time you change your oil, it's not a mistake someone is going to be prone to making more than once.

    The plug just needs to be tight, no one should be fearing over torquing it because no one should be using a torq wrench to do an oil change. Just like someone shouldn't be afraid of under or over tightening an oil filter. Doesn't take a whole lot of IQ points to do.

    I think using a 14mm wrench one time isn't anything to get all bent out of shape about.

    The most irritating thing I find when changing my oil is I don't have my 3-4'' inch front lift kit lol. I don't like a skid plate in my face.

    And I think that's probably the only people who have a right to complain about an oil change, are the ones with skid plates they have to remove to do the change.

    Everything TW members recommend
    Fumoto valve deep into the oil drain access hole of 1/4" 80 pound skid plate.

    Flip the valve lever and let oil drop into collection vessel of choice. If you're really good, you can drain straight into an empty 1 gallon motor oil jug with a funnel. No fuss, no mess.

    My oil change would take all of 2 minutes if I didn't have lunch while the oil is draining.

    I'd shoot myself if oil ran down my arm every 5k miles every time I unbolt the oil plug (because of the limited clearance of oil access hole)

    There is always a chance of overtighening or undertightening a bolt. I don't care how many times you do it. There is always a risk. There is also always a risk of crossthreading as well. It's not about IQ points, it's called a mistake. If you've worked on a car/machine/computer/ home appliance over a long enough period of time, everyone has made the mistake of stripping, crossthreading, over/under tightening a bolt or screw. If you're saying you're always perfect while working on a screw or bolt over your entire life, I call BS.

    My truck is stored 2500 miles from my garage and so every tool I need to work on it is stored in the truck. I don't want to store a drain pan in there. My oil change is happening in a parking lot or vacant lot right next to where I bought the oil and where I will be recycling the oil. And I have a skid plate with an access hole.

    For me I'd have to be the stubbornest, stupidest, gave myself a lobotomy with a long flat head screw driver moron to NOT have the valve on there.

    Horses, courses and all that...

    How the hell do you overtorque a drain plug? He-man of the universe is not required to tighten a drain plug or a filter. Most drain plug specs are less that 30ft-lbs of torque. I've changed oil in more vehicles than I care to mention and I've never said to myself I wish it was easier. Maybe I'm just spoiled from having a rack at my disposal.

    Fumoto valve here...no rack or ramp needed. I just suck in my big gut, crawl under the truck and drain into a cheapo Walmart 15 qt container...no muss, no fuss

    This thread is funny.

    Must not be a real man. I've had Fumoto's on my last 5 vehicles...never a problem or worry.

    Another "PRO" is you can take oil samples if you're into getting your oil sent off and checked to see wear levels/Oil change interval recommendations.

    If someone hates you enough to drain your oil...a fumoto is the least of your concerns.

    Hangs lower than a drain plug
    Risk of somebody opening it
    Risk of it opening from debris in the road
    More expensive than a standard drain plug
    Pro
    You can drain your oil because you don't have a 14mm wrench.
