always option #3 get rid of the truck if you cant live with it, I mean a 125k warranty is great but if it ruins your dinner with the wifey:mad: then time to get rid of it

he is saying, get an independent shop to confirm there is an issue then take the truck to Toyota with proof of an actual problem.

Agreed. I had to battle with that decision with my bum transmission. Now my rear axle is getting louder and louder, and I get to go through this nonsense again. FYI, I broke the gears in very carefully and changed the fluid out at 1000 miles with Toyota's recommended fluid.

but the fact is that there has never been a true diagnosis saying its a bad this or that part that's causing it, which really needs to be addressed if you want to move forward with a fix

As I said already, I have absolutely no issue with anyone taking their truck to an independent shop for diagnosis, no idea why you think I am against it.

Isn't that interesting. You are absolutely right. Toyota will never admit anything, and I bet someone will be producing an answer soon.

then you should voice your support of an independent shop diagnosis, instead of the fruitlessly going back to the Toyota dealer for answers, there are none there

personally im really surprised that no one has ever to my knowledge even taken their truck to an independent driveline expert or even say folks/vendors that have vast experience commenting on this issue, its always the same people who wont take any step farther then what the Dealer told them and then post up about the Turd gen. sucks, but yet they still own the truck, go figure they must like something about it or it would be gone long ago.

I have absolutely no issue with someone taking their truck to the Dealer either, some guys here that had them swapped out at the dealer and it solved the Howling. I'm down for whatever the owner wants to do with their trucks as they are the ones paying for them.

    A good read.

As a side note: I wonder if the pinion bearings/races are opening up clearance, and or, the crush sleeve is failing to do its job, at preloading the pinion bearings, and thus, the ring and pinion is being forced to try and wear a new pattern constantly (bad by the way).

The howl is definitely the same frequency as the ring and pinion tooth mesh frequency, and this did not happen at all when my truck had 1500 miles on it, and it absolutely dies, loud and clear, with 12k. The pinion depth and preload are ceitainly viable candidates for root cause testing.

Would love to do this. Don't think I'll get anywhere at Toyota though with another mechanic's diagnosis! That's like telling them you read it on tacomaworld!!

there were 0 owners that had the differential swapped out and had the howl subside, so now the next logical step is to take the truck to a non affiliated Toyota driveline expert and have a real diagnosis done to see exactly what is going on, Toyota has closed the chapter on the howling differential issue officially so there is no sense going there.

There was a guy just last week in 1 of these threads that had the rear swapped out at the dealer and it solved the Howling.

first of you need to really find out whats causing the issue before you can fix the issue(howling),Toyota corp has officially closed the book on it

Once again I have absolutely no issue with someone taking their truck to wherever they wish, it is completely up to them.

so why aren't the others trucks like Mr Smiths who claim they had numerous diff replacements and still have the howling? are they false claims?
