I will be buying a new Tacoma in the next week

2016 trd off-road 4x4. just hit 15k. no prob. loving it.

 

1. My truck has not had any problems.

2. If I had joined TW before I decided to buy a new truck, I would probably own a Frontier. (glad I didn't)
From what I read here, there are some who are having problems, and if you decide to buy a Tacoma, you just might also (because there is always that chance, law of averages).

3. Before buying a Tacoma, why not test drive the GM twins and Frontier. Long test drives if you can.

4. Good luck, I had an easier time, my old truck crapped out in the middle of winter, and I had to move fast. Never even researched new trucks, was a little shocked how expensive they had become- my last truck had hand crank roll up windows (I liked that) lol.

I have had great success with Autotrader.Com Have you tried them? Highly recommend.

 

I got a colorado diesel now with 46k miles and 17 months. Overall been pretty good truck. Seems after I went over 36k miles and no warranty I'm getting vibration rattles from somewhere in the dash pretty loud once you get like on city driving and lower in town speeds. I'm sure something for loose and with the diesel at lower speeds gets it going. On Hwy don't really have any. Has a few other issues but nothing major that I know few hundred bucks to dealer would fix. I'd buy another chevy. I like the tacoma interior much better than colorado but to me all makes in general are good. Will say trade or resale is not near as good as tacoma in the 17 months.

 

You are so right and it does not just apply to car buying. We are just a dumb down nation that believes everything our government, business, and the media tells us. I mean I was looking at an financial show two months ago and these people were calling in asking for financial advise. I could not believe the number of people calling in about student loans. How in the hell does someone get into a student loan debt of 110,000 or more for a degree in basket weaving or women's liberal arts then expects to get hired making 6 figures a year. Most of the people calling in with this problem were working at Wall Mart or some mall store and felt surprised this was happening to them. Talk about dumbing down of America. Remember the housing crisis that we suffered back in 2007. What happen to a lot of people was their own fault. These mortgage companies prior to the housing crash were offering people these mortgage called interest only with adjustable rate loans. Now these loans are not bad it just depends on who you are and what situation you are in. These types of loans are NOT for most people and mortgage companies knew this and kept pushing them on people. I know in my area these loans were very popular and before people knew it their mortgage went up say an additional 800 to 1200 dollars a month. Now here comes the mortgage crisis and now you have a double whammy. Needless to say this caused a lot of people to lose their homes. Many of these loans were marketed to people who had no business looking to get into an 700 or 800 thousand dollar home to begin with especially when the were working two jobs Wall Mart part time and a hotel cook fulltime. My whole point to this is both parties is at fault here, but the consumer needs to take the burden of responsibility. People just don't read and understand the contracts that they are signing. They just think businesses have their best interest in mind and that is not true.

I was listening to an elderly 65 year old women who had worked her whole entire life and said she will retire in a year. She had no savings and no retirement plan, 401K, and lived from pay check to pay check. She turns to me and says you know when I retire and start collecting Social Security I think I will be able to buy me a house. Needless to say, I did not say a word and just said to myself are you that dumb down to believe that you can buy a house off of social security.

I learned a long time ago that the only people looking out for your best interest is YOU. People need to start taking control of their life's and stop letting businesses, government, market hype, and churches pretend that they care about you because in reality they don't.

 

I hear what you are saying. I am assuming by a thorough test drive, you are referring to at least 300 miles of mountain road and dense city driving. Perhaps bringing a master mechanic with you helps as well. You definitely need to test drive the car in extreme, opposing temperatures. I would also recommend breaking the rear axle in as well, to make sure the rear axle isn't bad. Certainly, these things will help one make a more informed decision. I am with you.

Maybe, but more likely the majority of people aren't "dumb", foolish with their money, or gullible.

Exactly like most Tacoma owners don't own a POS. The vocal minority will always get the attention, while the majority quietly go on trying to do their best.....and succeeding.

Hey, suggesting OP test drive before buying is on topic . Speaking of OP....

 

dealer told me today they are expecting any day should be able to order 18s soon is what they think. Ive got to decide on color. I have now changed and got it down to Silver/ Cement/ BBP / Inferno / or if that new blue on pro is cool which id have to see it to know. Leaning now towards the BBP and Inferno but not sure

 

Agreed on the doggie part, but that part was acceptable to me. My issues were the transmission problems (not shifting strategies but part malfunctions) that showed up after the first week. Next was the jammed up climate control encoders that showed up when the weather cooled off. Also the rear end howl that showed up after the first 2000 miles. I couldn't find these problems in my test drive.
