Black Rock 997 wheels, anyone have them?

I really like the look of these wheels. They are also super cheap. Curious if anyone is running these or can offer a comment on their quality. Search didn't turn up much.

 

if you google "Type 8 wheels" you will likely find forum topics going back a good 10 years about these wheels not fitting on tacomas...

the holes are dimple dies and they stick in about 1/32" and hit the brake vein on the front calipers...

some have had luck grinding down the vein just enough to clear, while a number of folks miscalculated and ended up with a $350 repair...

if you get them in a 5" backspace, then run some wheel spacers, you should be able to clear just fine...

i have heard recently that there is a wheel maker who makes a soft 8 that will clear, and you may have luck finding them at Summit, but before you commit, you may want to find out what their return policy is before you drop the money and get stuck with the wheels...

 

i also saw a post recently on another toyota forum where someone bought these wheels, put them on his truck, and managed to drive about 4 feet when the wheels literally got stuck on the calipers...

he said the truck would not move at all when he got on the throttle... i believe he may have had to replace the calipers and get some wheel spacers...

needless to say he was a bit annoyed that he didn't hear about these wheels before purchasing...

do you know if the same is true for the 942 type D?

 

D window steel wheels should be fine... tacos have been running those for years...

i am on my 2nd set of D windows now...

just make sure you get the right backspace for the tires you plan to run...

 

I plan on getting the 16x8 with 4.25"BS running 265/75. Will this pose any issues?

 

yah, you will be fine...

if you later decide to run 285-75s, you will want 4" backspace...

 

I found a set of Pacer 297B on craigslist for $250. Is that a good deal? Comes with front spacers, caps, and lug nuts. I'm assuming I shouldn't have any fitment issues because of the spacer, he said its .25"

 

talk him down in price...

if you can get the wheels for less than $50 each, used, it's a decent deal...

you should be able to get them at Summit Racing for as low as $42 per wheel brand new...

i tried a .25" plate spacer once, but I didn't like how short the stock studs ended up being, but if you keep them torqued, you should be good to go... you can always upgrade to longer wheel studs later...

offer him $225 and see if he bites...
