So officially got the runner. Dual yota family now.

Needs some TLC, has some expected 20 year old vehicle blemishes and quirks but so far so good.

    Thanks guys!

First thing...fix the AC. Claims a bad compressor. Going to test the pressure lines tomorrow and see if it's got a leak or something.

Anybody well versed in older yota AC systems?

We did have any "problems" with ours, but it needed to be recharged every 6 months. Was easy enough to just keep doing it.

I'm just going to get an at home recharge kit. I figure a shop will tell me it's blown lines and a bad compressor anyways, so possibly overfilling or blowing the current 20 year old lines won't be such a risk.

    stuff...
I'd start with seeing if compressor turns on/fuses blown?
Then hook up gauge to see if AC lines are filled at all.
If you aren't going to spend the time and or $ to fix it right, and you do just try to fill it, use the can with the dye, and you can get the glasses/light to see where it is leaking from. I wouldn't want to be breathing in all that leaking refrigerant. It would be good to know where its going.
And, if you keep refilling cans of refrigerant that keep leaking out, you end up with a lot of oil in the system that displaces the refrigerant. Just makes it less efficient and doesn't get as cold.
Its been hot lately, I cant imagine not having AC.

You can leak check yourself fairly easy. Autozone has vacuum pumps in their loan-a-tool program, but I'm not sure about a gauge set. Have a shop remove all the old 134 and then put a vacuum on the system and check for a drop in vacuum.

Edit...this would be if you're trying to fully fix the system. As @Vigo mentioned, check that the compressor actually turns on when you turn on AC before looking for a leak.

Should probably see if the system still has pressure. Technically if u have a gauge u will be able to see drop in operating pressure . No need to recover. But before adding freon make sure u remove all non condensibles . If not then goodbye to compressor.

Reeled in a marlin last weekend on the Ruckus. Little guys, but a fun fight. Built up a pretty good relationship with the captain, maybe a Oahu TW fishing trip? Idk, AZ TW was really active in hanging out. Let me know what y'all think.
