I fixed it, but in doing so I had rotated the right camshaft slightly but then it jumped due to the lobes and then I had to crank it around a few times to get it back into position so now the belt and timing marks are lined up all around. The crank never moved. The left cam had enough play to go clockwise back into lining up. Like I said I rotated the right cam clockwise with my ratchet and it would jump due to the lobes. I got it close and moved it to match up with my timing mark and got the belt on. Does the cam return to the same place every time when it's pointed at the timing mark?

Was I supposed to rotate the right camshaft, letting it snap back into place until it snapped into a position that lined up with the timing mark or can I basically just force it into place with my breaker bar like I did? Reading this thread made me feel better, but it would be nice to have someone with experience check off on my work - I'm concerned the right cam is one tooth off to the right (facing the engine).

If it's too hard to tell from the photos / videos I figure I can just unhook the timing belt from the right cam and rotate it one notch in either direction to see if it looks better in another direction. :notsure:

158k and tonight replaced my sway bar bushings and new sway bar end links installed. Next on the list, outer ties rods and steering rack bushings.

Replaced radiator hoses the other day along with a couple of vac lines. Fuel filter done.

Have to love that periodic preventative maintenance

Most of the work I've done to the truck so far has been preventive maintenance. As I see it, if you do a lot of that, there will be a lot less repairs needed.

I did a simular thing but this 1/4" flat stock. I wish I just used one with prestamped holes, would have saved me some time.

Finally got a damn snorkel yesterday. Took five weeks and that's shipped to one state away. I drove to get it and it's installed now.

A little more than that with the dual swing out. It is one of the more pricey things I have on my truck

Got the sandblasting done today! Have to spray it this afternoon so it doesn't flash rust. Had a guy come right to my house to do it, cost $350 and was worth every penny. I've got a sandblaster but would've taken me days to do what he did in a few hours.

I'm new to this community as of today, but today I replaced the driver's side extended cab rear window latch, which was broken. Took about 30 minutes, nice and easy. Sorry, I forgot to take pictures.

I'll post some photos of my truck eventually, when I can get it out of the city into its natural habitat. 2002 extended cab Tacoma SR5 TRD

I'm in deep. Spent more on my "daily driver" truck recently than my racecar/show Cobra...

Here's "Tony." My 7 year old nephew guessed why I named the truck Tony immediately...nobody else has been able to guess.

Anyway, first thing I did after I bought it was buy those wheels and tires. Those are stock 2017 TRD wheels/tires that had 500 miles on them (dude put 35s and a new suspension on his new Tacoma). I bought the whole set for $800.

I added the red topper for $300 a couple weeks later and I've got a full-width camper conversion in the bed that I bought for $200.

This past weekend I put a 5500lb tow hitch on the back of it and today I fixed the rear window latch.

Next up I have to do the timing belt and water pump and replaced the steering rack bushings (I'm just going to replace the rack since why not). After that I'm gonna do 5100s all around and probably the OME 880 coils. After that, maybe I'll do a DIY front/rear offroad bumper and eventually want to also do the Tundra brake upgrade.

So yep, I'm already neck-deep in the upgrades and spending, lol. Big plans...

Tundra brake upgrade was one of the best mods I've done. Really easy. Safety wise, why not? By the way, nice truck!
