If and when auto makers decide the market just isn't worth it, the manuals maybe be worth more than a model T in mint lol!

I'd hold on to it, In fact, I'd hold on to it just because they're fast becoming an endangered species.

And I might hold on to my A/T just because all this tech such as 10spd autos, TSS and on, is getting to be just too much, too fast and too expensive, and some of it even ridiculous

Some times they shut off depending on the brake pressure. If you're lightly on the brake it will stay running. Also if you have the blower on full speed, they usually won't shut off. Either way it's a pain in the ass

 

In some cars if pressure is applied to the steering wheel, as if trying to turn it, the engine will not stop running when car stops.

Yes.
A 2 stroke receives very little lubrication when the throttle is closed. Which is fine, if it's just idling, because it doesn't need much at that rpm. But if it's turning 3500RPM or better because you're engine braking down a hill...

Exactly, you waste more gas in modern cars shifting into neutral regardless of your transmission coming to a stop. The only time I did this was when I hypermiling in my project corolla and I would shut the motor off to coast downhill and pop the clutch near the end (I know, not safe, etc, etc). I wound up going an average of 36mpg combined to 46mpg combined from hypermiling techniques. Not worth the safety issues, but was a fun project.

 

Since we are discussing the term of misinformation.....it is "Shift" Mode not "Sport" mode

 

the culprit here is cruise control....it is probably over riding the "close fuel injectors" code....that being said, I have no idea as to the validity of it using absolutely zero gas, i feel like it has to use at least a little, just (obviously) not very much. no proof, just discussion though.

 

When I was test driving my Mini Cooper I came to a full stop at a stop sign and had the car in neutral full stop clutch out and the car shut off. It really freaked me out. Push in the clutch the car automatically restarted. for the year I had that car I never had any problems with it. It worked very smoothly.

Yes, manual transmissions will eventually become a thing of the past. But then to, self driving cars are being tested now, and if you think how fast technology is moving, it won't be long before the self driving car becomes reality, and all these issues become mute for everyone. It also would not surprise me if all cars are now prewired to be able to easily convert to self driving technology when the government mandates it.

Me too! Who ever heard of freewheeling down a curved mountain road??? That's just nuts and eats up your brakes. I always use a lower gear going down and up hills; never in neutral! Do the engineers at Toyota who come up with this stuff ever drive a manual transmission?
I believe it's both illegal and insane to drive an 18 wheeler with a manual in neutral downhill. You may not be able to recover your lost gear!!!!
