I know this has been asked a lot and I've read a bunch of different threads but still not clear on what I'll need. I have a 2017 tacoma sr5 all stock. I plan on ordering bilstien 5100 shocks for the front, and rear if necessary. My truck only had 2k on it so should I do the rear as well? I've been told they should all be done at once but not sure if it's true. I know I could fit 265/75/16 with little altering needed, but I want to go with 285s on aftermarket wheels (16-18") What is the best way to make it happen with out having to really trim? Sorry again to even ask and I just don't really know a lot about all of this.

See the links in my sig block below on fitting Tires.
Understand that no lift alone will allow you to run 285s without rubbing unless you are ready to trim fender wells and chop your cab mounts. Lift alone does not clear 285s without rub. Again see the links in my Sig block below.

Hey man I have a 2017 TRD Sport. I put a 3x2 level with 18x9 wheels and a 305/60R18 Mickey Thompson tire. I trimmed just a little off the front not much at all and I have no rub what so ever.

Thank you for the response, which leveling kit did you choose?

Proceed with caution as his experience does not match most of those reported on this site. MOST members have to cut and trim to fit 285s without rubbing, especially if you plan to take the truck off road. Also many leveling kits utilize blocks and spacers which are discouraged here due to the cheap components, wear and tear on your vehicle, reduced performance and ride quality, etc. Recommend keeping your lift to 2" or less. Look into the Bilstein 6112/5160 combo if you want 2" max lift it will work Great and will be an improvement in performance and ride quality over stock.

If you go with a 2017 TRD package they made the wheel Wells a little bigger then the older models. They made the 2017 a little different. I don't rub at all. Trust me you will be fine if you go with a 2017 TRD Sport or Off road.

So you're saying that the 2017 is different from the 2016?

Yep, I put on an icon stage 2 lift kit and installed it at the stock settings. I had to trim extensively and do a cmc to get 285's to clear with no rubbing whatsoever, and I'm running 16x8 wheels with 4.5" backspacing. Also hammered in the pinch welds to be safe off-road. The rear will clear fine but the width is the problem on the front. Here's how I trimmed

Could be not sure on that. I can tell you that I would never drive my truck hard so it would mess up the suspension like in the links you provided. That's from an idiot who thrashed his rig and not taking care of his stuff. It all depends on how you want to treat your truck.

When you throw spacers and blocks on your truck you're putting components under stress that were only designed to run at certain angles and load factors. It weakens the shocks and springs. There are guys who have just hit potholes and broken shocks with spacer lifts. You don't have to run the Baja 500 to experience a failure with these cheap lifts.
