To be clear 'locks' was in quotes, meaning simulate. I know it doesn't lock, just acts in a similar way. Also to be clear, Toyota refers to the 'traction control LSD' as 'Auto Lock. Not the same use of the term as Eaton.

Again, not trying to start a fuss, just trying to give the guy the basics of what is going on.

My "LSD" sport differential will spin both tires IF they're both at a total loss of traction. One tire in the air and all bets are off. The clutches aren't aggressive enough to grab traction from the tire that can get it. It works ok in certain situations, but definitely not something I'd want to "upgrade" to.

    To whom it may concern...

For what it's worth, the traction controlled system in the Lexus worked alot better climbing sand dunes and ESPECIALLY on ice than the LSD in my Tacoma. Other than that, Tacoma performed better. Trails, mud, ESPECIALLY trying to pull someone out, etc...

I swapped an e-locker axle into a 3rd gen 4runner. Found the elocker axle for $500 and an ifs diff for $150 so they'd have 4.3 gears. Worked great. Cost was better than just the cost of labor for me regearing diffs and installing an ARB.

MIne doesn't perform like that at all? What year is yours? Maybe check diff. Oil/additive ratios. That makes a big difference! I found when there is too much additive it doesnt totally engadge.

I'm not accusing you of trying to start a fuss. I am just trying to keep people from being missinformed.

An lsd doesn't act similar to a locker at all. They work completely different ways.

Where does Toyota refer to its auto lsd as auto lock? I haven't seen that anywhere.

IN A VERY SAFE PLACE!!!!! Jack up one rear tire enough to get it free spinning, put some wood or something under the axle (away from any wires, brake lines etc... be safe!!!) Start the truck, put it in drive, if you don't see the wheel thats off the ground spin a few times, then the truck takes off like a summa biatch... something is wrong.

    Fresh Mobil1.

Are you SURE yours doesn't perform that way? Because I'm pretty sure that's how they're designed to work.

The lsd additive actually make the unit slip more. I wouldn't use it at all.

From what I've read the OR has a smaller rearend compared to other taco models. Your best best is detroit or arb. I had Detroit TruTrac in a jeep Cherokee it was great to have performed well. The arb is the way to imho for daily cause you engage when needed my Detroit sometimes would chirp the tires if I took a corner a little fast.

If you dont add a little additive and can burn up the clutches.

It might have some slightly smaller components, but plenty of people off-road with them without issues. Unless you're running 35's+ it shouldn't be a concern and even then plenty of people are running 35's on the stock 8" rear.

How exactly does yours perform than?

All clutch type LSD units should perform like that.

If you have 2005-2008 TRD Sport that does this, there is something wrong with your rear diff.

    https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=6pxcozEEONY

Either worn clutches or too much additive. For example, one time when I had my street tires on my truck, while I was pulling over on the side of a small road with no sholder I slide in a ditch. They left rear tire was in mud, the right rear tire was in the water. I had street tires on, both tires were spinning the a## off, but i had no traction. I took ratchet straps, looped then through the left rear wheel/tire to where the ratchet was sitting on the tread of the tire and tightened them as tight as they would go! ( i used 2 ratchet straps like this) in other words put 2 big 'cletes' on the tire.

Scratched the piss out of the rim, i did some tire spinning, one broke and killed an ABS sensor and a few scratches to the bed. But...

... pulled right back on the road with only one rear wheel having any traction.

Several other situations with only one rear tire touching, same result.

I'm not sure what you're saying. Your LSD differential is not a locked rear end. There will be SLIP, hence the name. If one tire has gobs of traction(like in the video)and the other has none, the tire with no traction is still going to get the majority of the torque. The clutches are only so strong. They can't LOCK the tire on the curb with the tire in the mud.

I guess I'm not understanding how you say your LSD differential works completely different than my LSD.
