So months ago I bought a Volant CAI second-hand on Tacoma World because I wanted an aftermarket intake that was boxed like stock.

I didn't like the idea of oiling my air filter and screwing up my MAF sensor so I went looking for an AFE conical Pro Dry S filter since that was the best aftermarket air filter according to Tacoma World consensus. AFE didn't make one to fit Volant size specs but those amazing bastards will make custom filters and I took them up on the offer.

Lastly, there is a dude on here who makes custom acrylic CAI covers for 2nd and 3rd Gen TRD intakes. A quick PM and a trip to the post office to ship my Volant cover and I had a one-of-a-kind cold air intake for my Tacoma.

Disclaimer: Not trying to reignite the debate on if an aftermarket CAI adds any performance gains. I'm fully aware that I swapped a cold air intake for a cold air intake. I did this more wanting to make my 1st Gen unique, rather than make it faster. To be honest it didn't even register on the butt dyno.

How are you going to fix the body damage on the gray truck's rear cab? Saw the pic on your build thread and looks like it got t-boned.

Yeah it looks fine other than that dent. If you swap over the bed it won't look too bad.

Doesn't look like it'll be too difficult to fix the damage, I've seen worse get fixed.

I won't be fixing the damage, I'll sand and paint it to stop further rust and I'll bedline from the body line down. This thing is just a wheeler.

Please correct me if I'm wrong, but isn't the exhaust system your choke point for performance as it relates to fuel/air mix? I was doing some reading since I thought about upgrading to a conical filter and cold air intake system, but it seemed like I wouldn't get any performance increase unless I first upgraded my exhaust system. I'm not trying to ignite a debate either, I'm just wondering if what I read is correct. I passed on a new/in the box CAI system off craigslist for 100 bucks lol.

    Heads.

    DIY:

Then a better filter and headers will make a more significant difference - especially if you force induction after.

Read the disclaimer, not expecting and didn't receive any sort of performance gains.

Choke point was the issue. Heads are the primary choke point for fuel / air. I was paying attention to his post.
