No shit I want to see this!

WTF could they change I can't see much of a design change? Now I did hear of a possible .22 from some people that went to shot show this year but they said it would most likely be 2 years or better....

Pictures of the rumored “fifth-generation” Glock 17M have been leaked courtesy The Firearm Blog and Primary & Secondary. Developed for FBI and other law enforcement agency contracts, the newest Glock pistol drops a lot of unpopular features and adds a few modern upgrades.

While Glock’s handguns may be the most well-known and most successful polymer-framed service pistols in the world, they’re a little dated. Even the newer generation models don’t stray far from the original design. Because of this other companies have been encroaching on Glock territory with more innovative, feature-heavy designs.

    No more fingergrooves! (Photo: TFB/P&S)

The changes meet key contract requirements. (Photo: TFB/P&S)

These photos indicate that the next-gen Glock 17M has come a long way, incorporating an ambidextrous slide release, reversible magazine release and a reprofiled grip shape. The new model has a straight grip without fingergrooves and an enlarged, flared magazine well. The grip looks like it can accept add-on backstraps for larger hands. It also has a cutout at the front and redesigned magazine baseplate. This is probably to make it easier to remove stuck or jammed magazines.

Other changes include a new muzzle contour and a smooth trigger. There are more than just cosmetic changes here, too, as the 17M has a different pin layout and a new, enlarged recoil spring assembly. Glock also upgraded the finish, but exact details about that remain unknown.

See Also: FBI Awards Glock with $85 Million Contract for Glock 17M?
These changes largely conform with the FBI’s service pistol requirements. The FBI awarded Glock an $85 million contractfor new handguns and parts earlier this year, and keen-eyed observers pointed out that no Glock pistol meets those requirements. These changes will open up many new markets for the Glock 17M.

It’s not uncommon for agencies to have a gun in mind when they draw up service pistol requirements. These requirements can be so specific that only one handgun can meet them all. A way to rule out Glock for contracts is to require a grip without fingergrooves.

    Notice anything different? (Photo: TFB/P&S)

Hopefully these photos are real and that Glock plans to make these pistols available to the general public and soon. It’s not just agencies that are turned off by fingergrooves. A lot of gun owners have sought out other designs because they dislike Glock’s love-it-or-leave-it grip.

Also these left-handed features will help draw buyers. It’s not just lefties that want left-handed and ambidextrous controls — many right-handed shooters practice shooting off-hand and one-handed, too.

Time will tell what else may be new and different about the next generation of Glock pistols. It’s probable that some parts will not be compatible with previous-gen pistols. Still, it would be surprising if major components like magazine bodies and sights are changed. With such a huge, established market and aftermarket, major accessory compatibility will be critical for rapid adoption.

That's old stuff, and they've been released to some police agencies and then recalled for issues

It appears that someone finally got their new Glock 17M duty gun in from Glock! I am inclined to believe that it is a genuine photo because our source is an officer with the Indianapolis Metro Police Department, one of the first agencies to receive the new guns. The officer that this 17M belongs to is one of the first to get the new Glock, there is no new information at this time and it appears that many of the rumors have been confirmed. Glock has not released any information as of yet; we will update as we learn more.

At a glance, we can see that the rumors that the gun will be sporting a magwell appear to be confirmed. There was talk that the Glock mothership in Austria wasn’t too keen on adding a flared magwell for whatever reason. I would love to hear the rationale behind that one. The most interesting thing about the 17M below is that it appears to be a Gen 4. This seems to give the rumor that we will see a Gen 5 around SHOT 2017 more weight. The list below was leaked by an officer attending the Glock 17M/19M training, it appears that he hit the nail on the head.

    • A new tougher finish
    • Changes in the rifling
    • Longer recoil spring assembly
    • Reinforced forward notch for the recoil spring assembly
    • A smoother trigger similar to the G42/43
    • Flared magwell
    • No finger grooved
    • Changes in the safety plunger
    • Ambidextrous slide release
    • Magazines have an extended front lip
    • Magazine well cutout
Keep a look out for more information on the 17M and 19M pistols. I imagine that there will be some better photos surfacing as well as a good statement from Glock regarding what changes they made.

Might be something to this speculation of a new 5th Gen but will it make it into civilians hands?

Thats why I don't think it would happen anytime soon as they would be changing the primary design of the Glock that could be its down fall....and thats what the last article said it was an agency in indy.

I will always be a Gen 1 and Gen 3 fan myself....

OK so Glock is in fact "releasing" something Aug 26, and have selected a few ranges across the country to demo whatever it is

The rumors on Glock ID (run by Glock) is that it's the 17M and 19M

Ranges are using #glockreveal on social media to discuss it if you wanna see if your local range is part of this

Looks like this is the "pre-release" and then Aug 30th is for the rest of the country

doesn't look like much is changed. i see metal sights, a beveled muzzle, and removal of the finger grooves. Anything else ? not going to run out and grab one anytime soon if this is the GEN 5....

Def nothing life changing that makes me want to upgrade my 17 or 19 for sure

The beveled muzzle is nice but I like the finger grooves and if you put night sights on like a smart person then you already get metal sights
