The end where it will bolt to the core support looks a little thin for aluminum. I'm kind of concerned with that area developing a stress crack. Is it possible to make it thicker there?

 

I don't think you need it because it's horizontal pressure that's holding the battery in place but that's what I think

 

Even so, the stock steel bracket has more reinforcement there. Aluminum will fatigue over time especially under the hood where there is a lot temperature extremes.

I'm not sure honestly. I just know that if that one side was bolted down and you tried to bend up the other it would most likely break.

Is it 1/8" in that current design? Maybe even 3/16" would be enough, but you could even consider designing it like the stock steel piece with the vertical bends on the side. This is machined from a solid piece right? So adding something like that should alter the cost very much.

These are only suggestions, I'm just trying to offer advice based on experience.

 

If you look many posts ago, I asked for comments and did not really get any. So this is a little late in the design evolution, though not impossible to implement.

I was not looking at this as a structural member where people would be lifting as a prybar. I was looking at this as a bar that restricts the movement of a battery.


I do not have drawings in front of me, so I can not answer the question about thickness. I will follow up on that tomorrow.
