Fumoto Valve and the pimply faced kid

Hopefully they don't have air tools out there. Much less chance of stripping the drain plug

 

They will lose the drain plug in the mud.

 

I have fumotos on both of my toyotas. And they both had aftermarket skid plates. Most armor has a hole in it, but you try and drain your oil with the normal plug without taking off the skids, you will get oil all over.
With a fumoto, if you get the one with the nipple, you can snap on a tube, crack open the valve and drain through the hole without spilling a drop, and no need to remove 80lbs of skid plates. And with the skids, they are pretty recessed in there and protected.

 

If you have that kind of armor, I can see from other Pics why you would use a Fumoto valve. I would also. I'd love to put one on mine.

I don't have the armor, but I still like to go play in the woods.

I can't justify adding, I don't know but, lets say a 25mm-35mm long Brass soft spot to hang from the bottom of my Oil pan.

I be stopping after every big hump,rock or root to make sure it was still there.

I'll keep my wrench and steel plug and just scrounge a few more rags.

 

My fumoto decided to drain all by itself, returned it. It looks sturdy but mine wasn't.

 

Hawaiian kids that work at oil change shops in the big island... are they pimply faced?

 

Dunno. Never been to an oil change shop. I got the fumoto cause I do most everything myself. But the times I took the trucks in for service, Toyota had no issues with it. In fact they were the ones that put them on. When dropping off the vehicle I asked the service writer to have them swap out the plugs with the valves. Gotta use up the free services and oil changes.

 

That sucks! You can also get a little plastic clip that locks the lever in the closed position. So it's like a two stage lock with the clip installed.

You can see it already has a safety lock. The clip is just extra protection.

But now that my SAS is done, and I don't have those skids, mine was looking very exposed so I gave it away and went back to the stock plug...

Thanks Eventually I want to fab a new trans crossmember that uses the stock transmission mount. And I'll add some skid plates to that. The oil and trans pan looks very vulnerable.

I've done my own oil changes for the last 20 years. I stripped the thread on the oil pan maybe 5 years ago and had to replace the lower pan. Bought a Fumoto and haven't looked back. Never taking that chance again. Those pans are thin and only have a little extra thickness around the drain hole so not very many threads. Now all my households vehicles have a Fumoto valve. Never had one leak. I have the safety lock on mine to be sure the valve doesn't accidentally open.

 

I've got a Fumoto on my rear diff and tranny drain plugs too. Transfer case and front diff might be a little tricky though...

 

I wheel all the time in the mountains without a skid plate and never think twice about my fumoto valve, different strokes for different folks!
