by working at VW, I learned that there are features you can "program" into the car by simply changing the coding in corresponding control modules. One example is I just programmed the passenger mirror to dip down and look at the curb when you put the car into reverse. There are other features you can do as well, like rolling the windows up and down with the key fob or even having the sun roof automatically close if the car senses rain.

does anyone know if things like that are possible with the Tacoma? I understand that they might be lacking sensors and control modules that the VW's have, but I'd imagine it (theoretically) wouldn't be hard to have the windows roll up and down or get the mirror to dip....

Can you elaborate? I would gladly install an aftermarket alarm if it added the features you described. The two examples you used are exactly what I want, as well as an option to crack the windows and sunroof as you approach the car (A BMW feature for sure, and most likely others)

I had one of the guys at the dealership hook up the computer and set it to where my doors all unlock with one button press and all doors unlock touching the door handle(smart key).

You are right. go to the settings menu>vehicle customization.... I think it is labled doors or unlock. Once you get to vehicle customization ther are ont that many choices., you will find it easily.

I don't recall everything that can be changed. All I did was make it so when I press unlock on my Key fob, all doors unlock. there were other things to change, I just don't recall what they are.

There are a couple of things like what was posted.

I think VAG cars are different because they have the canbus system so there is more options.

LOL. Vag = Volkswagen auto group. Canbus is the central computer system that the car uses

I used the Carista app and OBD2 reader to change:
Blinker to 5 blinks for lane changing when I just tap the turn signal
All doors unlock when I touch the door or key fob on the first try instead of only the driver
Doors lock once the vehicle is moving instead of when you put it in gear

I leave the seatbelt stuff alone though - as annoying at the beeps are, I'd probably forget my seat belt from time to time if they didn't do their thing, but you can turn all seatbelt chimes off as well as change the light of your dome lights and whatnot.

NOTHING nearly as fancy as you were hoping for, I'm afraid. Windows rolling down automatically and mirrors moving on their own would be wicked, but something tells me that's gonna be a lot of money for something relatively small...

my 1995 Integra has a high end compustar 2way alarm/starter system. I can tap into this like my sunroof and window motors and program the alarm to allow me to roll my windows up and down, and open my sunroof.
