Hey guys, I just purchased a '17 Quicksand Tacoma Off-Road about a month ago so am pretty new to this whole scene of off-roading and overlanding.

I was wondering what lifts you guys have put on your rigs or if you have just left them stock and what suggestions you might have in terms of certain kits.

I appreciate the help and am excited to get more educated!

Welcome a popular and well-reviewed lift is the 6112/5160 combo which I have done a fairly comprehensive write up on. You can see the link in my Sig block below.

It all depends on your budget and purpose. Building a rock crawler or washboard racer, how much height are you looking to get?

I also would in no way, shape or form classify a midsized truck as a "Rig"

The suspension sub forum is a good place to start browsing. Also, there are a ton of great vendors on here with that can recommend a kit to better fit your needs.

Last, Call your truck whatever you want. There are people on this forum that are chronic complainers(and actually never have anything positive to say). Your truck, do watcha want!

I went with the Icon Stage 4 and have been pretty happy with it. I will be swapping the add-a-leaf out for a heavier rear spring and upgrading the front springs as well.

If I were to do it over, I would have spent a little more time researching and probably pieced together exactly what I wanted rather than buying the kit. I just had no idea exactly what I wanted until after I purchased and installed it.

That is exactly where I am at. Trying to figure out my options and what is best performance for the price.

Not necessarily trying for either, more of an overland truck for trails and such. I'd like to get around 2-3" out of it. I don't have much additional front or rear weight but will be adding a prinsu rack with intentions of putting a tent on top within the next month or two.

Oh I won't take anything personally. It's all good! But I appreciate the direction. Just trying to learn and grow my knowledge is all you know?

Don't feel bad....everyone is new to "overlanding"....the term wasn't even known by most people 5 years ago. It's sort of the cool new thing....like MC Hammer baggy pants or snap bracelets or jelly shoes or fidget spinners..etc.

I like to leave my suspension stock, it will never ride better than stock. Toyota put alot of engineering into the stock geometry. I let it be.

    Here's a thought.

Drive it as is. When you discover things that can be improved by making changes, then make those changes.

They are quite capable right out of the box, with a decent driver and someone who knows how to 'recover' when stuck.

Tires make the biggest single improvement. Not always bigger, just a better tire for the purpose the truck is used for.

All will be different as we each have different applications and requirements. If you need a lift, lift your truck last after you have everything else. This will give you an idea of what suspension you need.
