    A little a this, a little a that...
I was just being sarcastic. My kids are very well behaved and I don't put up with any whining or screaming or any other bullshit.

Somewhere deep in the Sierra National Forest.

First time I actually got to use 4L before. These trucks are incredibly capable of getting you into all sorts of trouble with 2WD and it sure is nice having the "insurance" of lower gearing. Truly impressed with where one can get with these vehicles.

Did you have to reinforce shell to put RTT on there?

Amen! It's called being a parent.

When my kids where little (20 and 24 now) we camped a LOT in our pop-up trailer. We had a rule that went into effect in the evenings after a full day of activity. Rule was, the first one to whine/cry sent ALL the kids to bed, even when camping with friends and their kids. Very effective and made for a lot of peaceful evenings for the adults.

Nope. Seemed to handle me just fine. I would start to be more concerned with 2 people in it though.

I've taken a break from camping since my two kids were born. They're 2.5 and 1, we try to get them to maintain cool and be calm but its hard. We try talking it out and separating them from the problem, I don't put up with the crap my 2 yr old pulls. That being said, he's 2, I understand that he doesn't understand why he cant have things his way. I don't wanna disturb people while they're camping, because I know it's a means for escape for most people. I used to be extremely annoyed with other peoples kids before I had kids, now I understand the struggle of dealing with a screaming kid or kids. That being said, I am thinking of taking the family on a camping trip in the next month or so to feel it out again. We took our oldest when he was about 6 months old and it wasn't bad. We'll see how 2 young kids will do.

For us, camping was easy with the kids. They love being outside and sleeping in the camper(s). Getting there was the challenge when the younger kid was rear- facing and hated being in the truck for long periods. Video taken when they were 1 and 4. So much easier now at 4 and 7.

How was Titus? I've heard its do-able in 2WD. Did you find that to be true? Gonna go out there in a few months hopefully.

Definitely doable in 2wd. First time I was there, in my old Scout, a Ford Focus blew past me on the washboard. Probably a rental and had some damage, but that was more due to clearance.

I never did put up with a lot of noise back when I use to camp with my little one but even if he did get out of hand we use camp at least 25-50 miles from all the other campers so it never bothered any of them at all but I seen to it that he was a well behaved kid.

Hey Chris, looks like a nice spot. Do you mind sharing where this is? I googled it and can't seem to come up with anything. You can PM if you want, or keep it to yourself and I would understand.

    Thanks!

It's a well traveled area, so no secret spot here, I think the actual name is something like Red Mountain/Red Lake? It's a trail that leads back to Mirror lake, Red Lake, Strawberry lake, West Lake, Coyote Lake...etc. Pit toilets at a few areas, some fire rings, great scenery and peaceful little lakes. The turnoff is a dirt road just before the Tamarack Motor Lodge off Hwy 168 around 13 miles past the back end of Shaver Lake: To get to the Red Mountain area, take Hwy 168 east from Clovis towards Shaver Lake. Continue 13 miles past Shaver Lake and turn on the Road 8S10, Red Mountain trailhead. Follow the signs for 3 miles to the intersection of Road 8S42, and then travel 2.5 miles to reach the trailheads.

My kids love camping. Whenever I take them into the back country, even if it's a day hike, I try my best to let them revert to their feral, wild rumpus selves. Let them burn out all of their energy. That being said, I would never do this near other humans. If I'm going camping with them it's preferably in a place miles from other people so that I don't bother anyone else. Once sunset hits, though, that's when it's mandatory quiet time. Snapping to life some glow sticks generally helps keep them occupied a little more quietly until bed time.

We were pretty disappointed to see so many people up there this time. We usually have the areas relatively to ourselves, but with the other main areas closed for repairs due to our past winter snowfall, and a shorter season dictated by the USFS, I guess it just got a bit busier this year.
