    My oldest son was in marching band. They put quite the time constraints on those kids. It always amazed me they can get away with those requirements.

    Last year he played marimba, this year he is playing snare, and has to march. It was a rude awakening in 100+ degree weather.

    At my son's school, they didn't allow that. If you wanted to be in band, marching was a requirement.

    This was years back when I was in junior high, did band 6th, 7th, and 8th grade. Marching band was a separate option. I'm 30 now.

    I don't doubt that it's required nowadays at the middle school I attended. But it wasn't back then at least
