if he "knew someone" it's very possible he got it for 27. A very good friend of mine was dating the daughter of a dealership owner for a few years. He needed a truck, and the guy said he would sell him a truck at dealer cost. Not the BS "invoice price", true cost. He walked away with an extended cab long bed Tundra for 18k (plus TTL). Broke up with the chick a few months later lol. He traded that truck in to Carmax five years later for 16k.

I use that story when negotiating for new cars. They pull out the invoice BS, I tell them the story, and the price goes down more lol. I got my Tacoma right at invoice, wife's ride a couple grand under invoice.

 

I don't get it. I always tell people what I paid, or if I don't feel comfortable with it a close range. Like "slightly less than X".

Especially in this community, lying only hurts us. Nothing good can come from it.

The shit guys posture over is ridiculous. It seems to be the worst when the activity/thing is stereotypically manly (eg cars/trucks, guns, sports). It's like they are "supposed" to know everything about guystuff and their ego won't let them just say they don't know.

I've known people that lie about how much they make/spend on things since I had my first job. Some people feel better about themselves when others are jealous of their financial status, and some get so much self worth and fufillment out of it they're willing lie for it...... It's basically they're way of feeling special.
