Yotarobs 4runner build

I went home at lunch & fucked with it some more, I noticed that it only sounds like the starter is dragging on the flex plate for about 1/2 of a rotation & not all of the way around. Like the flex plate is out of center or somethig?


Here is a quote from a guy over on yotatech who has been trying to help my dumb ass, I am pretty sure this is the problem!!!!!

Of all the flexplate bolts ONLY ONE is different. It has a cone shape close to the head. It goes in 1st for a reason. To center the flexplate for the rest of the bolts.

If that's not done it's logical it can cause the problems you're now encountering."

I just put the flex plate bolts in random holes in no particular order

 

first of all, cool build

second, that sucks! When my dad and I were putting the motor back in my old full size bronco, we forgot the thin metal spacer that goes between the motor and trans. Of course we noticed it sitting on the work bench right when we got everything back together. It sucked but oh well, mistakes happen.

 

You know there is 2 ways to fix this problem, neither of then are desirable, I think I would rather yank the trans than pull the motor back out

You are right, at least it is not an expensive fix, just a time consuming one. Getting the tranny back out & back in prob won't be so bad. I just keep thinking how unneccisary it is if I had just paid a little more attention.

 

ahh time to clean the trans and paint look at it that way

I didn't notice it either man. sure wish I had.

It's not out yet but getting close. I have the drive shafts, shifter & starter out, all of the wires & likage, speedo cable ect. is disconnected and the top 2 bell housing bolts that are a bitch to reach are out. I sure did miss that 17mm pivoting head gear wrench you had the other day for those 2 bell housing bolts, but I got them. First think after work will be to support the trans on a jack & get serious about taking the trans out.

 

Hell yeah, I was talking to Andy last night & he said Jason should be in town this morning & that they would probablly join us for lunch, Really craving a Joe's burger!!

Wont probably be there till like 1 boys. Course I got a radar dectector/ scrambler so maybe I can make some time up. Test doesnt get done till 11 and its about 2 hours
