Bilstein 6112

Alright boys, so this is the final product.

I should start by saying I had a very tired 2-leaf + overload stock pack before, that was literally on the overload 100% of the time unloaded. I was shooting for a full-size half ton-like capacity, and I couldn't be happier with how this turned out.

I started in the rear with 5160s, a 3-leaf 2016 leaf pack and then a 3-leaf AAL from headstrong offroad. I dropped the overload and just went with a simple 6-leaf pack, with no overload.

In the front I went with 6112s on the second clip. I wanted to keep the stock UCA and also have some rake, and it turned out perfect (for me).

Those of you looking to level your truck with this setup probably would be disappointed.

I parked it next to a brand new Chevy 1500 to see how it compared. See for yourself, the bumpers, bed height, hood and rake all look very similar.

 

Yeah, that's what I'm leaning towards. Just hoping for some affirmation from others that may be running that setup. I think after it settles, it'll net me with a decent stock-like rake with the Dakar leaf springs. There is a white ACLB 3rd gen with a camper shell that has the exact stance I want mine to have, but I can't remember where he posted what setting he had...

 

You should be fine, check out my above post. That's with a 1.5" AAL and my front is on clip #2

 

I guess you probably didn't use a 1/4" spacer for TacoLean or did you? Just verifying. Do you have your measurements pre-lift and post-lift by any chance?

 

Great looking truck. I think the rake is just about right. It seems like the 2016+ leaf swaps are popular these days

 

Lots of take-offs, that's what made it easy for me. Another member on here sold them for $100+shipping.

I'm not sure if they're actually more stout than the 2nd gen springs. If anything, I think it's the exact same as the TSB 3-leaf + overload packs that some 2nd gens had from the factory.

As you can see, mine was pretty unlucky and I got a 2-leaf + overload and it was downright pathetic.

I have B6112's and B5160's........................Just installed my OME095R leafs and JBA HD UCA's.

I had no lights come one when i was driving it a local off-road shop to get my alignment done. After the alignment, the Tech said one of my light is "on" and that the "steering angle sensor is out and is at 270 degrees." They charged me $175 for the alignment but are clueless with the light, i should've just took it to Toyota for the alignment. Now i'm going to be $100 deep from Toyota just for a diagnosis from Toyota. The local shop is going to have a conference with their Techs and call me back in the morning.

You need to ask Toyota to do a "Zero Point Calibration" on your truck after the lift. That should take care of the problem. I can't remember how much I paid for it but I believe it was around $100-$125?? Maybe someone else has gotten it done recently and can give you a better idea. Mine was done over two years ago.

 

What's a "zero point calibration"?

 

Well I'm not a mechanic so I don't want to get technical about something I don't know much about. You can search it on the forums in the search bar or just Google it. Lots of stuff comes up. It needs to be done after replacing suspension components that change the height, steering angles, etc. The vehicle's VSC system is getting confused now that the vehicle has been lifted. All I know is I had the same problem and I brought my truck into Toyota. The Tech said, "Oh yeah, we see this all the time...anytime you change the suspension geometry you need to have a "Zero Point Calibration" done. I didn't have time to research it myself to see if it was something I could do so I had them do it. Fixed my problem.

Question for 3rd gens and (2nd's in 5th gear) running 285's. Hows 6th gear (AT's) on the hwy? Will it hold and accelerate or is it always downshifting when you try to accel even say half throttle? I'm guessing its too tall of gearing now.

I've posted this info a couple of times on this and other threads: If your going to max out or even close to max the clip position or lift you pay the price of exactly what you describe. It will top out easy over SB's or quick dips. I experienced it when I first did mine on the 4th position. I lowered it to the 3rd and totally got rid of that. I wish they made them with a threaded collar so you could dial them in on the fly. I did a semi write up on page 5 about it.

 

I have never heard that clunk noise on my car and I have it on the highest setting on the driver side and 1 lower on the passenger side. I even tried jumping passing train tracks and no noise. When it comes to the 285's on a straight away it holds 6th gear just when going uphill it will down shift but even when my car was stick uphill would downshift a lot cuz 5th and 6th gears are overdrive gears. That's what people tell me.

 

@HB Taco appreciate your info, I did read your post and with that said I'm going to install Maxtrac spindle and set the 6112 to the lowest notch.....That should fix my issue for sure and plus get the geometry back to stock.

 

I don't remember seeing it mentioned that anyone has done it so forgive me if this has already been asked. Has anyone used the 6112 set at 0 with an OME lift coil spring (886, 887, etc)? I'm curious if the two are even compatible, I don't see why not, but I'm no expert. Would be interested to see some feedback if anyone has. I hear that eliminating preload is generally a good thing!

 

The 6112, comes with its own spring, most of the tacoma models will get 2.5 inches of lift at the top clip setting. The OME spring is not compatible because of the shock diameter of the 6112 is 60 mm, compared to an OME or stock shock which is smaller in diameter. The spring will not slide over the shock body. You can you springs from eibach, Fox, king or other compatible springs if you need to get a stiffer spring for bumpers etc, but then you might be better off buying a different set up
