Is your truck on the recall list? If so, you should just be able to make an appointment.

good move, you torque it and break one and all of a sudden it'll
be an issue 'you' caused. I was going to do the same, said screw it
I'm bringing it in so it's all documented.

But, if you are not on the recall list, and you are not leaking (are you?), what are you worried about documenting?

    Ok so my journey begins...

Just dropped off my TRD OR (not on the recall list) to have my 5 slight weep stains inspected. It wasn't weeping at all at 10k miles but now at 13.5k it is. Service adviser that helped me "told me" that since I am not on the recall list, he would prefer just to inspect the diff and confirm the leaks....hopefully order the parts that Toyota wants me to have to freshen things up back there...and then send me on my way today with the understanding that when the parts get in they will call me and I can bring it back in to have them installed. I am keeping my fingers crossed that this is in deed what happens today! :fingerscrossed: According to him the weep areas I described should not be an issue for me to keep driving the truck until parts come in.

I will write back later today with the result.

AutoNation? I'm holding off taking mine in until I know they have the parts to fix it.

Smart move. There are two dozen trucks in the secure lot, and about a dozen more off to the side. I think some others are parked by the body shop. Art has been cool - I can see his frustration every time I stop by for a visit with the hostage. He's even pulled up the maintenance system to show the parts inventory.

    It's nuts.

will they not let you sign the waiver? if you're on the list, you have to have it
in and checked or they don't order parts according to many dealers I've spoken
    to.

Just got back from my 30K service. My diff is OK, but the dealer in Spartanburg has 78 waiting. No CPS parts yet. "We'll call you"

Anyone know or understand why Toyota isn't sending parts to dealers in advance? Isn't this just some shitty cheap gasket anyway? Why are people having to give up their trucks for weeks on end with no idea of when parts will be available? This seems so backasswards.

Toyota operates on "Just In Time" where they don't carry any inventory of parts, when something goes wrong like a recall of bad parts it ends up taking awhile to get caught up.

That's true, but the "Just in Time" concept applies to parts flow into manufacturing, not parts flow into service centers (after market), so it doesn't necessarily follow that JIT for mfg would affect the after market supply chain of parts.

been told by many dealers, if it's not waiting on the lot or hasn't
been checked, no parts will be ordered.

The same JIT process goes back to the suppliers too as they don't want to sit on inventory of raw stock or finished product.

Well, it's definitely true they would never be sitting on enough stock to handle something like this, that's for sure!

Thanks for the heads up. In that case I will take it in and will sign the waiver. I'm not going to let them park my truck in the Texas heat for months but do want to get the parts fixed asap.

Instead of taking your truck into the dealer and having to sign a waiver wouldn't it be best to just steer clear of the dealer altogether until the dust settles down. We're fortunate here we have inside information and nobody here should fall into this trap unwillingly. My trucks on the recall list and nobody's forcing me or actually seems to care if I take it to the dealer I've actually heard nothing other than the letter by regular mail. And I've heard nothing from my selling dealer. If you sign that waiver the liabilities on you , if you don't go to the dealer then all the liabilities on them if you have a failure. I'm not saying to never take it in or ignore it but we're smart if it's not leaking bad wait.

How long can they realistically sit on our trucks before repairing it? I mean I'm not in desperate need of my truck, but I'm making payments on it. I'd like it to be functional and in my possession... What if I need mulch? I'm fixing my deck soon, etc...
