I'm wondering if anyone out there has flipped the orientation of the volume and track running button 90 degrees ccw (so the up button is volume up, and track forward button is pointing to the right? The current orientation just does not make any sense to me (volume forward, and turn track up?)

Haha, it wouldn't be as easy as just rotating the plastic button. You'd have to rotate the connections beneath it. Might be easier to just rewire it at that point.

This bugs me as well. Volume gets turned up or down. You go forward or backward from track to track. The buttons are counter-intuitive. Someone needs to make a new button (with rewired connections) to fix this. I thought about rotating the button 90 degrees, but then either volume control or track control would be opposite (depending on which way you rotated it). Plus, the graphics would be sideways.

I disassembled my buttons to try this out. My wife's rav 4 has the buttons the correct way so I'm always confused going between vehicles.
You can't just rotate the buttons, the entire keypad beneath has the be turned as well. Long story short, it can't be done.(easily) the volume/track control pad is not semetrically flat, so turning it 90° will not sit corrrectly.
I have just learned to adapt and deal with it

With all the crazy stuff you've done with headlights/taillights, etc. I'm surprised you didn't fab something up.

But what happens when the volume bar on your radio screen still goes left to right?:eek::eek::eek::eek::eek::eek::eek::eek::lalala:

The steering wheel controls match the radio screen.....volume bar left to right and stations and tracks up and down.

I'm OCD and I love the way it's setup to match.

haha Thought about that already. I don't care. Volume is turned up. Tracks are forward and reverse.

Traditionally, it was always forward and reverse with the symbols being >>| and |<<, respectively. Also, I've never seen volume labeled "right" and "left", always "up" and "down" or "+" and "-".

A back step for when I get older, Carhartt seatcovers, 4Runner wheels, Topper, and "tats all folks"! --for now!!
Our 15 Subaru OB has the buttons oriented the opposite way as the Tacoma. I get in wifes car and I sometimes touch the "wrong" button!

I have the same issue. The 2015 outback also has the stereo controls on the right - which is again more intuitive as its closer to the radio. Can't tell you how many times I changed the track instead of increasing the volume in the wife's car.

Toyota punted on the ergonomics here.

Might want to remember the air bag before you go and jack around with the steering wheel.

In addition to the switch in direction for track/volume, can the stuff on the right be moved to the left and the track/volume be moved to the right? If they sold something that did all this I would consider buying it. As it is, fixing just the track/volume would only be halfway there imo.

This is one of the biggest annoyances I have with my truck...it is different than every other Toyota model too, which makes no sense! Tracks are "previous" and "next", volume is "up" and "down". No question about that.

I am thinking about rewiring the buttons (forgetting about the graphics). I hope it is doable. I'm going to look at an EWD now.

I screw up hitting the buttons too, they are the opposite of how my 15 was.

If anyone has a wiring diagram for the steering wheel controls I might try changing the wiring.
    Anyone?
